Ben Elton wrote a rather splendid novel parodying the X Factor 2 or 3 years ago, I think its rather good.
More recently he did a cracking novel set in a future where folk post all of their activities on the web, very much on the lines of "Swinging Lifestyle Scallwag Dirty Dating Illicit Affair Free Shags fer Sad Gits . COM"
Say what u like about him, the man has a fabulous line in parody and is completely attuned to the Zeitgeist.
I find Peter Kay rather dull in comparison.

I couldn't get into this the first time but after all the comments - had to give it another go. It's genius! I don't watch X factor or any of the other similar tat but this is hillarious.
