Ok,
It's friday, we've finished with the week's graft...couple of bottles of quality red have been sunk.. and we're about to pop in a video as a precursor to a night of warmth and intimacy; but what to put on?
What films would put YOU in that warm and smiling frame of mind:
A few suggestions that might calm Artificer's throbbing temples..
-Il Postino
-Brief Encounter-(gets better with time, have done the pilgrimage to Carnforth)
-Amelie (I think I'm in love with Audrey Tatou)
-Magnolia
-Casablanca (Here's looking at you, Sappho)
-Local Hero
-Goodbye Mr Chips (Robert Donat version-I cry , just typing the title)
-Once upon a Time In The West ( every frame a thing of beauty)
-Witness (I want to be Amish)
-Notting Hill (I know, corny, but-well-excellent)
-It's a Wonderful Life (not just for Christmas)....
just a few suggestions, what do you think? Ben Dover?-was he in 'Love Story'?
A.

Debbie Does Dallas
I vote for Witness.......
Nothing to do with Kelly McGillis at all of course redface Just a good film and one of Harrison Fords better ones.
Fred
Arty, I have to say I agree with every one of your choices. What a man of taste you are!
Yes Fred, you're a man of taste too (mmm).
Can I suggest Ken Russell's 'Women in Love' - and not just for the homo-erotic wrestling between Alan Bates and Oliver Reed. I was madly in love with Glenda Jackson in that movie.
'All About Eve' - one of Bette Davis' finest movies.

 Has someone been spiking her drinks?
How about "Midnight Express"?
Fred
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. A feast for the eyes. And Michelle Yeoh.
Peter Greenaway, anyone? He's not to all tastes, but The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover is a damn sexy movie.
I'm not sure about Life Is Beautiful. Absolute genius, but perhaps best followed by quiet contemplation, not romance.
Kat, I have to say I agree with every one of your choices. What a man of taste you are!
lol
it must be the Magnificent Seven.
Fred, "Witness" is average Ford, check out "Mosquito Coast", boy can that guy act...deserved an Oscar...better still "Blade Runner" (Director's Cut)...what every actor should aspire to!
Stu of the "Fran & Variety"
PS you want to watch any Harrison Ford I have the lot!
As to movies for the mood...
Love..."Wings of a Dove"
Sex..."Betty Blue" (just switch off half way through unless you want...)
Depression..."Betty Blue" (from about half way through!)
Happiness/Feel Good...so many to choose from but all time fave has to be "Miracle on 42nd Street"
Tear Jerker..."Brief Encounter"
Angry..."Bowling for Columbine"
Comic...joint 1st ....Austin Powers/Bowling for Columbine.
Action....The Matrix/Tomorrow Never Dies/Pulp Fiction (no order intended)
Technical...Jurassaic Park/ Terminator 2/ Jaws (if you saw it back in '76 you know how good that shark was)
Best ArtHouse...THX1138
Best Horror...Exorcist (dated now, but based on true events...v. scary..William Friedkin spent a long time researching)/ The Entity...saw it as a teenager...based on another true story, not seen it on DVD yet??
Ok, there are thousands of other categories you could cum up with, this is just a few of my faves...opinion...nothing more..if I am allowed to pass one...hope all are spelt right!
Stu of the "Fran and variety"
Debbie does Dallas Again II........
Good shout Bikerguy!!!
lol
Favourite film of all time.... Braveheart.............................Bet Jags likes that one?!!!!!
A few favourites:
Once Upon A Time In The West - fantastic. The only film Henry Fonda was a bad guy in. And what a bad guy. And the only film Charles Bronson was truly great in.
Life of Brian - come on. "Yes, we are all individuals!"
"If it's not a personal question?"
Blade Runner. Actually the original cut does it for me.
Horror - The Shining (Kubrick)
The Big Sleep
Rear Window
A Matter Of Life And Death
Get Shorty
The Birdcage
Awwwwww Mark deep throat is a terrible film.
I had some more thoughts on this to add to my previous:-
The Omen-wow are all kids like this?
Tales of the Crypt(original hammer version)-what a brilliant film
The Wickerman-cult viewing
The devil rides out-scary when i first saw it aged 13,only cos my mum wouldnt watch it alone
And no ive not gone all funny,i do like a good horror film that plays on your mind rather than than loads of gory special effects.
