I realise this isn't everyone's cup of tea. I don't know if anyone saw this, nor if anyone is interested but a few things came to light that made me sit up with interest....
"My Government's programme will meet people's aspirations for better education, housing, healthcare and children's services, and for a cleaner environment"
"My Government is committed to raising educational standards and giving everyone the chance to reach their full potential. "
"A Bill will be introduced to ensure that young people stay in education or training until age 18, and to provide new rights to skills training for adults"
"Available and affordable housing is one of my Government's main priorities - Legislation will be introduced to create a new homes and Communities Agency that will deliver more social and affordable housing, and promote regeneration" I really really hope so rolleyes
"My Government is committed to providing a healthcare system organised around the needs of the patient - legislation will be introduced to create a stronger health and social care regulator with a remit to ensure clean and safe services and high-quality care"
"My Government wants all children to have the best possible start in life. - There will be a Bill to improve services for vulnerable children and young people, including those in care"
"My Government will bring forward proposals to help people achieve a better balance between work and family life. - Legislation will be introduced to enable unclaimed money in dormant bank accounts to be used for youth facilities, financial inclusion an social investment.
"Legislation to reform the criminal justice system will continue to be taken forward, with the aim of protecting the public and reducing re-offending."
"Legislation will be brought forward to protect depositors and ensure confidence in the banking system" - in light of a recent bank getting into bother, customes with 35,000 or under will be protected, 'apparently' but I really really hope this pays off.
"My Government is committed to openness and accountability, and to a strong parliament able to hold the government properly to account" +
"My Government will bing forward proposals on the regulation of party finance and expenditure" yeah right, is this the expenses that Ministers accrue then??
"Reducing global poverty will be a high priority for my government" and what about poverty in this country??? dunno
There's some really good items on here, but will it ever happen or am I too cynical?? confused
and not a mention of swinging..... rolleyes
Like saying "crime is bad" or "poverty is bad" there is much to agree with on the surface but will this or any other government really back the words up with actions?
I must say that poverty here does matter, of course, but global poverty is a vital issue, that people starve or don't have decent water supplies is so wrong when there is so much that can be done to help them to help themselves and their communities.
The UK should be/CAN be a good friend to other nations and to itself, but maybe I'm sounding as fuzzy as the Queen's speech as to how we actually achieve that! rolleyes

No you don't sound fuzzy kiss of course global poverty is vital I totally agree, but in that speech there could have been 'in addition' to a mention on poverty in this country, I think anyway.

 don't you think he's aged about 10 years in as many months?
Must admit politics and the queens speech does not interest me at all so i tend to steer clear
i did think things would change for the better when brown took over from blair but again this isnt looking likely i have agreed with some things tho
The education until 18 is a good thing

I never used to be interested at all, not one little bit. I think it was forced upon me when I started doing this course and now I'm like amazed at what goes on. It's all about our future at the end of the day isn't it? It's still a load of codswallop and has the zzzzzz  factor so I can understand people wanting to keep away.
I agree with you Tan on raising of school age to 18. kiss

I was utterly disinterested too, until I did a Sociology course a while back. It really opened my eyes to the underhand control techniques employed by the "powers that be."
damn, shit, I just didn't realise that we weren't part of the globe.
where were the government paid teachers when I needed to be told that?
I just assumed when they had that world type thing on the axis with all the pretty colours, we were part of the globe.
damn damn damn damn damn

Nothing new in here at all, Broon had in typical Nu-Labour style pre-announced all of this as early as July as part of their spin-machine approach to politics and trying to fool the public.
Read between the lines and it's all a complete load of unmeasureable or unverifiable tosh.
"My Government is committed to.... " Well i'm committed to winning the lottery too, but it's highly unlikely to happen. Being committed to something is totally different to rolling up your sleeves and actually doing something.
"Reducing global poverty...." but by how much and when? And don't forget that poverty has risen under Labour in this country.
"My Government's programme will meet people's aspirations for better....". Define what "better" is please Mr Broon. Especially when spending on health and education is now frozen or being reduced.
"There will be a Bill to improve services...". Again, no definition of the quantitative improvements.
Personally I would have loved it if Queenie had stopped half way through, looked at Broon, announced that "it's all a load of bollocks" and ripped the speech up before walking out for afternoon tea with the corgis and Prince Phillip. In the meantime Broon and his cabinet were trooped off to the Tower to be reminded by a Beefeater holding a red hot poker that they are in place to look after the interests of Great Britain PLC first and foremost.
We can but hope!

The priority should be poverty in this country
Lets start to get our own house in order before we go doing good all over the globe

Got me for a second hun, methinks the lady was being sarcastic- as in "global poverty, are we not part of the globe?"

Thanks Winchy xx
 I had thought maybe it was sarcasm but then thought nooooo... wouldn't confused
Splendid, of course we are part the globe and yes that means poverty will be looked at for ALL.. my point was I was looking for a more direct approach to poverty in this county even though I understand poverty in other countries/global is a major issue also.
