Having been looking at the forums the last few weeks and not posting guess I'd be classed as a 'lurker'.
Just been waiting to have something valid & hopefully interesting to say.

Bit of a coincidence here and I hope this is taken as the observation it is and not a criticism of those involved.
Been chatting on the phone to a friend I am hoping will join the site soon and she said something very interesting. And there is a very good example of what she said in this very Thread. (OK its against the rules but she has wandered round the site using my account. While I am with her I hasten to add.)
Goes back to what someone said about The Forum being a bit difficult to break into. Basically if you go back and look at the exchange between argt05 and Lissa the multiple 'quoting' can come over as more about self promotion than actually adding to the point of the Thread? You see it quite frequently where regardless of the Thread a certain few will turn that Thread (hijack I believe its called) into something that promotes themselves personally to someone else?
I hasten to add THIS IS AN OBSERVATION it doesn't bother me (other than it takes longer to read the posts especially when photos are endlessly and pointlessly copied) but I do wonder if other and more seasoned Posters can see why someone new to all this will feel it is NOT worth making a contribution?
I await the Moderators boot in due course dunno

yes I agree its difficult being on the outside especially if the doors locked and no matter how hard you bang no one answers the door, although you can see the light on and the curtains moving rolleyes
I joined out of curiousity and felt that as a non swinger I shouldnt really be taking part in the forums and should leave it to those who do...... although it always looked friendly and I used to giggle away to myself reading some of those mad threads! Plus its a huge site, Im shy and its all a bit scary!!
So, I lurked for about a year...... until one day someone spotted me and dragged me screaming into the forum! Ok thats a fib...... I wasnt quite dragged screaming hehe A lovely lady caled Heather spotted me and sent me the most lovely pm, next thing I know theres a hello Anais thread started.......... smile :) :)
If it hadnt have been for Heather :rose:, I would probably still be lurking....

Firstly and mainly because I don't get on here very often troublesome business of life getting in the way - sorry.
Secondly because I'll only post a response to something that I really feel I am qualified to comment on and that I really give a damn about.
Lastly cos I'm quite shy and some poeple on the forum can be quite scary (guess you can file that part under not wanting a flaming)
I do really enjoy reading the posts and have some favourite posters that I look out for the infamous PL being one (hope she does't spot this) and Sheddy being another (Too nice to be infamous) ((Eek not that I'm in any way inferring that PL isn't nice mind)
Now feel slightly guilty of not making enough effort to make friends on here
Maybe I'll post an ask me anything about me thread and see what happens....

Welcome to the forums...
I understand where your coming from, I sort of feel the same way.. I only post in threads that interest me or humourous safe ones as I dont feel qualified to answer or give an opinion in some. Do what you feel comfortable doing... biggrin
xanaisx
i'll put my hand up to being a cafe lurker..as others have said of themselves, i tend only to read posts with an intrequing title..i'd also avoid threads that go into several pages, except for those promising pervy photos lol redface
i'm a dogging board gobshite..but here i struggle..not anyone's fault, no problems..just a matter of posting style  i don't do one line banter particularly well..my epic postings are fucking crap too, admittedly, but i ...well, tell ya what, i'll give an example of why some relitive newbies might find posting here a little worrysome
we'll call it the clive anderson effect....
the first post i read this morning was simply entitled "pain"..at the time, the fella's posting history amounted to a mere14..the subject made the jump from a paintball ricochet off the bum cheek, to the pain felt resulting from a swift crack across the arse with a stick, or suchlike..ok..it didn't invite huge or detailed discussion..it might have been a tad fragmented, and the link wasn't seamless..but...maybe the guy was just trying to join in with what he hoped was a successfull topic..
it actually took 11 posts comprising mainly one liners until "thinkingnaughty" tried to redress the balance with a positive viewpoint..then, to date, there were 8 more posts along the usual banter lines..like i say, not a comment, just an observation..
the comments ran like this..
don't go paintballing rolleyes
its a man thing sexy wink
wrap yourself in cotton wool first
patronising chauvanistic git
sorry..let me hurry back to the kitchen
is it finished
sexy minx
well don't moan when you get hurt then
why was you out of it in the first place
brave brave man
whaaattt!!!!!! you have a kitchen confused: yeeeyyyy
pain is for wimps.
(some icons omitted for speed)
for some novice posters, they might think "why bother" if posts are going to be used as a springboard for the regulars to display their lightning wit..you could say "well if the post had substance, then it would invite a proper reply" and yes, there is some informative stuff to be gleaned here..but could there be a case for ignoring posts that don't grab the attention rather than use them as springboard in the panic that ensues from not having said anything funny for thirty seconds?

Well I am new here as of Saturday, but I posted quite soon after getting here when I saw an easy thread to post in and felt comfortable to do so, got some nice hello's too. I have been on the web since 1994 and in that time I have seen some horrendous things done to people in forums simply because they had a point of view that differed from someone else. What I noticed here after looking around, was that it doesn't appear to be happening here, which is so nice to finally find. Dare say I'll now be told it happens all the time and I just didn't spot it LoL
As an example, the Prostitution murder thread was getting a lot of opinion about how the media were wrong to call the victims prostitutes first and women second. I share this opinion, but then some people started to post a completely opposite view to that point of view. As of now, those views have been heard, and discussed without any ill feeling at all. That speaks volumes about this place and the people that are here IMHO. I already feel amongst friends.
I would say to anyone who is not posting for fear of ridicule or flaming, why not just post and say what's on your mind. Strikes me you have nothing to lose really. If someone were to rip into you, there are enough nice people here to come to your rescue. If that doesn't help just ignore it and don't go back to that particular thread. But if it goes right, you stand to meet new people and have some fun too.
If it's not flaming or ridicule, it must be a case of my stock phrase that foxylady2209 will recognise because I say it so often, "Takes all sorts to make a world and it's just people being people". Hope you do post though! wink

Maybe some of you non-posters could take the plunge today and tell me what puts you off about posting. I, at least, promise not to flame you. biggrin

Ok Lissa, well here goes this lurkers first post!
Have so enjoyed reading many threads, replies and responses and have had many a giggle, guess its a confidence thing with me, and maybe a lack of pc experience???
Anyhow, the plunge has been taken and if i dont get flamed maybe i'll be back, hopefully with some worth while comments
Mrs Grif x
You should come back MrsG, everyone's opinions are worthy! lol wink

In answer to your question Lissa, posts such as this one in a very recent thread.
well i am so glad i wasn't around when you made the original post, because mount "fabs" would have blown a fuse big time
Do you know what.... i am really, really tempted to ask if 47 was your age and not in fact your I.Q ... but i won't....
but this "liberal namby pamby" does thinks that i haven't see this much pish written in a good while........that whole you dug for yourself, sod the shovel you need a JCB to dig your way out of this...
seriously.... you really have to get a clue......because i don't think you have one at all.....
and as for having digs at Classykatie, RPM, Leroy and the rest.... my friend i will defend them to the hilt.........as nice people and well as fellow forum people i respect, so if you in any way upset them.... you upset me!!!!!!!
............... and breathe!!!!!!

Nuff said! sad

Further to my earlier posts about why maybe some people don't feel like posting into a Thread.
If you take a look at the the same Thread mentioned just above (Married Ladies) from page 9 onwards (and indeed earlier) the Posts have absolutely nowt to do with the topic and everything to do with what I have called self promotion. Basically a few people dominate the Thread just simply chatting each other up or saying how good they are. Sorry but I believe (and a friend mentioned this) that it is just a huge turn off for some new people trying to get into the Forum, makes the Thread unecessarily long and, consequently, boring.

OOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
I say. This is a contentious one with good valid points coming thick n fast.
I have not yet learnt the art of "SHUTTING UP" Please someone could you tell me too shut up in a polite way.
Overall though i do get upset for those that do get unreasonably bashed by people/regulars/clever buggers, I must admit there are times that this is deserved.
Hey. And overall dont most of us love it in the end eh? Though it can be extremely clique(y?) and sicophantic its a good read and if it makes the blood boil just occasionally all the better. Sometimes a good stir with a big spoon is what gets the juices flowing (so the Mrs says lol )
God i wish i could remember what i was going to say it was really really interesting aswell !!
Hi all,
and just to add to the debate I wil jump in. I read the first page of this thread, then jumped straight to the last, as someone observed on the first page, by the time you read the whole lot it's time to do something else so you don't get a chance to post. I elected to post, missed a lot of the comments therefore please forgive me if I'm repeating something that has already been stated.
As I came onto this site this morning there were some 3,500 people supposedly online (I'm not sure if that's total membership but I suspect not judging by the number of pics in the galleries) and most of them, lets face it, are like me, saddo married guys who find it very difficult to type with one hand smile. Seriously though, there is, understandably, a degree of hostility levelled at us a a whole although as usual it's the minority of nut cases that give the rest of us a bad name for being time wasters, pests, wankers (hold my hand up to that one.......ooops, not now) and generally a bloody nuisance bombarding couples and singles with one liners (I'm not holding my hand up to that one) and failing to show up etc. (nor that one).
I would guess that the fact that I have to let anyone I do make contact with that I am married and cheating but that my wife wouldnt understand puts people off as its again a bit of a saddo thing to say and sounds realy lame. I know my wife doesnt understand as I have broached the subject of swinging on a number of occassions and she's just not interested, and sadly, our sex life isn't up to much.
Now if I came onto a forum and spouted all that I don't suppose I would be very welcome therefore I generally lurk.........with one hand.
hi every one ,just taking the plunge and saying reasons for not joining in till now
are not knowing how to use the site properly and getting the settings after reading some of your post i have tried so hopefully i might have got it right.
thanks for the tips . biggrin
can i have lissa and welsh minx for my pinups ?
wave and :welcome: to those that have taken the plunge and de-lurked!
biggrin
i guess im a lurker as i rarely post
i do look in wen i can but i always feel that its ppl who know each other well and its not always friendly to others who dont post regular
i supose though that im not here for the social part of it anyway such as chatting away on the forums so i dont make an effort with that part
i use sh to actually meet up and wud rather do that anytime than chat away on here smile

Maybe I have the wrong idea about The Forum and it is in fact just a base for aregular few to flirt and pass but I thought it was a place to exchange often differing views in an open, often entertaining and friendly way? Witty, on-thread,one liners still have a place of course!!
lol

As someone that regularly "self-promotes" - but quite openly admits to it; and gets laid because of it rolleyes - I have to ask . . . .
Can the forum not be both a place for people to pass witty, off/on-thread, one liners and "witty, off-thread, one liners " ??
And . . . .

Actually, imo you couldnt be further from the truth with that one - I, (and others) pay particular attention to posts by people I'm not too familiar with, the forum has always been a place where sometimes someones personality comes through, or, they have an interesting oppinion, experience, something to say, and for me, I can usually tell if I'll 'click' with someone or not from their post style.....with people who we do recognise, it becomes predicatble what they'll say, what their style of post will be - 'newbies' are far more interesting in terms of 'getting to know you' lol

Good post.
I lurk because I like reading quality posts like this. It's people like DaveJ and Dirtydoggers that keep me reading.
While I'm temporarily de-lurking, may I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Don't stuff too many turkeys. xxx
