Question For The Lurkers

Why don't you post?
Is it that none of the threads interest you?
Or is it fear of ridicule and flaming?
At any given time there are loads of people browsing in here, but so many of you never post, and I really do wonder why.
Maybe some of you non-posters could take the plunge today and tell me what puts you off about posting. I, at least, promise not to flame you. biggrin
Hmmm good question, I’m usually found in the chat rooms, but am an avid reader of the forums too, sad though it is I even have some fav threads too ……..love the film caption thread!
I wouldn’t call myself a virgin forum poster having posted a few times before……but the other day I was in musing mode & it occurred to me that some of the threads read like the text in the chatrooms, the ones where regulars meet and it might feel like an intrusion to ‘interrupt’ the flow.
You know, like being at a party where most peeps know each other well. You wander over, stand on the edge wondering if people will mind you listening or notice if you ‘chip in’. What often happens in face to face situations is that you can see people & read their body language……or if they are friendly peeps they will say Hi etc.
Of course on the forums you don’t have the benefit of being able to read body language & facial expressions that we usually use to gauge the welcome we would receive……
prob absolute rubbish but might be a poss answer to your question Lissa ??????
Well this may not be my first post on the forums, but it must be the longest !!
Taking the plunge...... wave helloooooooo

Lurkercio, Lurkercio where for art tho Lurkercio?
Jump in folks the water is fine. Faint heart doe's not win fair maiden.
Thank you Waterbabe.................and hello back at ya biggrin
I can understand your feeling that sometimes you might be interrupting 'the regulars'. It is very difficult for new people, I'm sure, and I can see that the forum would sometimes give the impression of being a 'closed shop'.
There are people on here who get on well with each other, and quite naturally there will be a lot of banter between those people. But life thrives on new blood being added all the time, and we need new people to come along and add their contribution. Diversity is what makes life interesting.
I really hope that now you've taken the plunge, you'll stay. :D
I guess some people like reading and others have to say something.
I'll try and post a bit more!

Hey you kiss
remember me? biggrin
great to see you in here, hope its not a flying visit hun wink
Think it's a chicken and egg sort of thing - don't want to join in cos it seems like a load of regulars/friends chatting but that's just the way it stays until others start to join in!
Break the circle and jump in and chat! No need to be put off by regulars/friends cos this place has changed SO much over the last year that it's sometimes difficult for us oldies to see our way through.
:P

I supposed once upon a time you could have classed me as a lurker, I used to come in read the threads and think maybe one day I'll post. Then one day I did. I have to admit when you are a new poster you can feel a little out of water but that sharp goes and it's amazing how welcome people make you feel. You do end up have more in common (thoughts and ideas) with some other posters and sometimes it can be seen that you reply to them more but to me that's just a familiarity thing and bids no prejudice to anyone else.
I like posting. God don't I rabbit on?/... I think one day I'll be on Jackanory! :eeek:

Asking lurkers why they do not post is like asking why football spectators do not play football. There is nowt wrong with a bit of lurking if that is all you want to do. People participate at different levels. One's success in life is not measured as per posts on a forum.
I think waterbabe pretty much hit the nail on the head, sometimes you feel like you may be interrupting. And sometimes, I tend to find after reading for a while, time has flown and I should be elsewhere so i dont always get the time to post replies. smile
Although, if I have anything really relevant to say, I'll will say it... but then I tend to forget where I posted and vanish from the thread! What can I say? Im dizzy - and proud LOL lol

Ok Lissa, well here goes this lurkers first post!
Have so enjoyed reading many threads, replies and responses and have had many a giggle, guess its a confidence thing with me, and maybe a lack of pc experience???
Anyhow, the plunge has been taken and if i dont get flamed maybe i'll be back, hopefully with some worth while comments
Mrs Grif x
I didn't lurk purely as I am used to posting on other forums - tho not swinging related. I've found it to be friendly on here, I get completely lost sometimes and everyone else does seem to know everyone else... but I just plod on and join in when it feels appropriate.
See lurkers? Once you've started posting... it becomes a habit! Go on..... they didn't bite me so I am sure they wont bite you... unless you ask nicely! Hmmmmmmmmmmm...
xxxx
I'd love to be flamed by Lissa.
I lurk to find out what people like to talk about and post ocassionally. I don't yet feel that I am a familiar face here though.

Welcome Mrs Grif xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Excellent first post and comment about PC experience. As I use mine for work daily, I hadn't even thought of people that are not used to the format. I am also a mod on a completely un-swinging related website so am used to the forum thing a bit more.
I was just getting used to posting then i disappeared for a couple of weeks, now im scared to post again incase no-one remembers me. rolleyes lol

Hi Lissa,
Good post this one I joined the forum this week and have not posted too much as I was busy reading some of the topics. trying to get a feel for the place.... I just checked out your homepage. Very Juicy indeed!
I like the site very much and find there is a good sense of humor about it and hopefully will contribute as time goes by... and I am learning, I didn't know what a MUNCH was this time last week, I thought it was something you did with a cucumber! but after seeing your gallery I think I can see the benifits of salad lol
