in fact my mates walked out half way throughIt just made me so CROSS!. They were wittering on about how the neutrinos from the Sun were changing. WTF? If a neutrino could change it wouldn't be a f'ing neutrino anymore - and yes, non-geek friends, it DOES matter! And it got worse from there.
There is even a perfectly good event that could have a very similar effect. The close passage of an asteroid on a near-earth, long-axis orbit. There even is one - it's called Apophos (Stargate fans out there in astonomy-land I think). The gravitational effects of that pass would cause tremendous tectonic activity - like they wanted. And they could have up to 2 years warning with some luck.

Rabbit proof fence- none of these two are going to make you mr happy and smiley as they're pretty bleak films, but so so good at the same time.
Nightwatch and Daywatch- Russian vampire action type films
Doberman- German/Austrian (and possibly somewhere else in the collaboration) shoot em up heist film- non stop action in a simialr vein to Leon
If you fancy some hollywood action thats away from the mainstream a little i can recommend Letter from Iwo Jima and flags of our fathers (in that order, no the other way round as it makes more sense).....and if you've been hiding nder a rock and missed it you need to see Pans Labyrinth- fantastic film, although not technically Hollywood as its in Spanish, also check out L'orphanage/The Orphanage by the same director
