It just made me so CROSS!. They were wittering on about how the neutrinos from the Sun were changing. WTF? If a neutrino could change it wouldn't be a f'ing neutrino anymore - and yes, non-geek friends, it DOES matter! And it got worse from there.
There is even a perfectly good event that could have a very similar effect. The close passage of an asteroid on a near-earth, long-axis orbit. There even is one - it's called Apophos (Stargate fans out there in astonomy-land I think). The gravitational effects of that pass would cause tremendous tectonic activity - like they wanted. And they could have up to 2 years warning with some luck.
<<<< goes to her Happy Place to calm down.

films ive seen recently after not bothering when they came out and thought they were outstanding
Traffic
Marie Antionette
Let The Right One In
The Changeling

The Changling looks so sad. Especially for the little biy she is given. I couldn't bear to watch it unless I found out it had a happy ending. OK soppy I know - but some things are too close to the edge to 'enjoy'. And that does it for me.
If you're after an excellent series to download try Wallander, the original Swedish one though - much darker than the Branagh version
thanks for the suggestions people... i will be downloading some of them
i have spirited away and princess mononoke on dvd already, i agree they are much better than anything disney.
You seemed interested in some of the foreign films metioned, so try these
Once were warriors
La Haine
Old Boy
City of god
Rabbit proof fence- none of these two are going to make you mr happy and smiley as they're pretty bleak films, but so so good at the same time.
Nightwatch and Daywatch- Russian vampire action type films
Doberman- German/Austrian (and possibly somewhere else in the collaboration) shoot em up heist film- non stop action in a simialr vein to Leon
If you fancy some hollywood action thats away from the mainstream a little i can recommend Letter from Iwo Jima and flags of our fathers (in that order, no the other way round as it makes more sense).....and if you've been hiding nder a rock and missed it you need to see Pans Labyrinth- fantastic film, although not technically Hollywood as its in Spanish, also check out L'orphanage/The Orphanage by the same director
that should keep you going for a while
