Am I the only person in the country who didn't know there was a football match on until a couple of days ago? I asked someone what all the flags were about (I wanted it to be because of the cricket but somehow didn't think it would be ) - they looked at me as if I had come from another planet!
Sorry to say this, but football is such a boring game I never bother to watch it. Stick to rugby (where England are currently world champions, let me remind you) and cricket, we WON the Test Match yesterday - shortly before we LOST the football.
Even Radio 4 went on about the football at some length today - and then added as an after thought "Oh, and congratulations to the England cricket team who won the Test match yesterday to take the series 3 - 0."
Why do we pay SO much attention to a mindless game played by brainless people. Okay, so they may be talented (credit where it's due), but are they worth £50,000 a week? I suspect not.
So are we out of the competition now? I almost hope we are so that life can return to normal. Sorry to strike a discordant note and I am probably going to be shouted down (quite rightly, I guess) but it leaves me completely cold.
