when you go into a chat room and say Hi all
and no 1 botheres to reply
i was always told manners cost nothing
so if you see us about plz say Hi at least

Fair point wato, but the other side of the coin is that there have been a number of members in here who have found the constant greeting of folks in chat rooms very off-putting. Sometimes there seems to be nothing much happening except people saying Hi, Good night, welcome back, not to mention the rows upon rows of kisses. I'm neutral on it myself, but do you really want to enter a full chatroom and get 70 rounds of "hi"?

I totally agree with you and it makes it so hard for newbies like us to integrate :cry:
One problem is that if you are in a room that is very crowded, it is very difficult to follow a conversation that you are actually involved in, let alone spot a "Hi".
And yes, I can quite believe that regulars DO spot each other coming into a room and greet each other - the same as you would in a pub if one of your mates came in. I don't think it's rudeness, it's just human nature.
Maybe the solution, as has already been said, is to not just say "Hi" but something that requires a response.

on a ratio yes i guess being ignored would happen to single males more, this is because there are more single males on here
some females dont say hi as alot of people think this is invitation to whisper.
some people flit through rooms, so it pointless in saying hi to everyone as no sooner have you said hi than they are gone again.
sometime your in a conversation already, sometimes your in the forum aslo.
i dont walk into a room and expect peopel to say hi, say hi to the room, ask a question, other than whos showing on cam and some people will respond.

makaveli.. do you ask for a reply even if it is either way. I personally always respond to someone who's taken the time to email, but not everyone is the same. If people are getting hundreds of emails you can't expect them to reply to each and everyone. Maybe you should put in your next email a request for a reply even if its a no.

I think you're quite right actually... some people reply and say hello.... others blank you totally. Perhaps its indicative of society in general.... what is common good manners to some is worthless to others.

I can see their point, but as others have said, in a busy room there either isn't time to say 'hi' to everyone who enters, or if they did, the room would be nothing but 'hi' loads of times.
Do you say an individual 'hi' to everyone on the list Wato? Probably not, for the reasons already mentioned.
