Sex in the dark!

Recently I have noticed that a lot of clubs seem to have the lights really low.
Xtasia's main play area is really dark. It is almost impossible to read all the rules on the boards above the sofas.
Utopia is so dark in some areas you have to walk with a shuffle to make sure that you don't fall over.
Why are they so dark?
I thought part of the fun of swinging is that people are liberated and not scared of being seen, in fact isn't part of the fun watching what other people are doing?
So... what works for you?
Do you prefer to be able to see what is going on, or prefer things to be a little dark and mysterious?
I much prefer subdued(sp) lighting but I guess that stems from my confidence issues more than anything....

I agree that stark bright lights can be very unflattering and don't enhance the atmosphere at all. However the lighting that I am referring to is almost non existent. For example, yesterday I went to Utopia and the couples room had one tiny lamp in one corner which hardly provided any light at all. It almost felt like you should be discreet about playing.
I like to dress up when I go to a club and feel sexy in lingerie, but what is the point if the person you're playing with can't even see you? I've got a blindfold if I want that smile
Turn up the lighting I say. As Venus said, not full blown bright light, but enough light to see by, but not too much that the mood disappears.
Like her I want to see what's going on... and with my failing eyesight I need a fair amount of light to do that properly.
we always have the lights on when we have sex at home.....dont think iv ever had sex in the dark come to think of it.
It could be the credit crunch, perhaps the clubs are saving on their electricity bill! biggrin

The club's loft area isn't much brighter either, still got the scar from the head to roof beam collision!
It's going to be tough for a club to get the lighting balance right. Overall Xtasia do a good job, especially when the curtains come down around the dance floor - we particularly like that bit!
good ole dark rooms..nothing better than when you go down on a girl or guy and only discover by feel the scabby clap covered genitals..., the spunk dripping out the pussy , the thrush encrusted labia, or the dirty hands of the fella/girl that is stuffing you full of fingers...need i go on lol
would be easy to pack this swinging lark in wouldnt it if you think too much
btw unless they have altered the loft area it was plenty light enough for us last time we played up there ... its very popular with voyeurs up there so i dont think its that dark..or has it changed? aint been for a few weeks

I've just had a great idea- Glow "sticks" for willies!
Oh, and I actually like having sex in the dark. Having said that, I was with someone trusted who ticked me off for trying to turn out the light- it was for the best as seeing the passion in said persons eyes was worth revealing wobbly bits.
Just to say, the Dark can be Cool and sometimes Red or Blue Lightingcan be exciting - But don't don't use the loft unless you've plenty of good blankets down, splinters can rather stop the spontaneity

Winchy
Don't even go there, I had some glo stick at a social party, and well one of the guy did what you have just suggested through his PA!!
lol
I actually like the dark room at xtasia, I love having the option of using one. It would be nice to have the option of being able to see while out of it too lol.
I think chams has got the lighting right. (Although they could do with a dark room). None of the rooms are stark bright, but you can see what is going on everywhere. They even have 2 different light effects in the jacuzzi's so you have a choice between clearly being able to see everyone and dim.

I hate low lights in clubs... two's sod of a hubby plays pranks on me then! mad
We tend to go to Fetish clubs and parties now adays
more so than swinging clubs/parties.
Usually the lights are bright enough to see the action of the players but dark enough for the atmosphere. where has a lot of people in the swinging scene appear to be quite shy.
This is only our personal view.
