Should you let sleeping dogs...lie on your bed..
(That is a question i read in a newspaper today)
Well we are supposed to be a nation of dog lovers ,but do some people take that love to far and treat there dogs like children..
But to be honest a dog or any other pet can't peplace a child..
yes i agree that pets are good companions and are loyal, but having your pet share your bed is most def a step to far..
As i read the article today there was two agruements about it the one side as i have mentioned there is the companionship from the pet and the other side of the coin is that your pets (dogs)can some times carries dieases..
That is the otherside of the arguement in the article in the paper..
My own personal view is i'd never allow the family pet in the bedroom at all...
So what are you views on this one...
having people walk past yr front door and spitting on the floor ect is just as bad but u don`t get that written in the news paper ....wonder why???
A friend at work had a large - huge actually - dog that sleeps on the bed at weekends. It is ok apparently apart from the fact that it gradually shuffles itself into a comfy position with him and his wife perched at opposite edges of the bed.
My preference - dogs in kennels. biggrin

That IS a disgusting habit - hard to believe it's illegal or at least against the by-laws in most places.
Our dog prefers the sofa rolleyes the cat gets the bed lol
ah my little black fur ball she has a preference for the bed, even under the covers at times.
yes i move her out but its difficult when you asleep and you dont know till the morning, she is very small.
I adore my dog and two cats ... but there's no way they're sharing my bed!
It seems to be their mission in life to get into my bedroom though - they sit in wait outside the door practically all night and I'm almost bowled over by a furry tsunami every morning! I have to chase them round and drop kick them back out again efore I can even go downstairs. Oh the joys of pet ownership!

My cat sleeps on my bed 90% of the time!! She has to be locked out of the lounge at nite coz she wreck my leather suite with her claws... and she wakes me up every morning pushing her nose into mine and purring rather loudly in my face!!
each to their own but never going to happen in my house.
went out with a guy who had a dog and would always put it first
i went out one evening, then went back to his, slightly drunk , went to bed and woke up looking like a very hairy german woman  i was covered in black dog hairs ewghhhhhhhhh
he would allow the dog to sit staring while eating a meal, drooling everywhere, would then let it eat from the plate ewgh.
sorry not a dog hater, actually like them, but feel they have a place within a family and its not above a human.

I had a little Westie. Adored her. She was lovely, cute, adorable etc... alas she died.
She was however, a pet. She wasn't allowed upstairs at all. She had a basket, that's where she slept.
I loved her. Wept like a baby when she died - gutted. But no way would any of us had her in our rooms, never mind in a bed or on a bed.
I'm with fem_4, not a dog hater but do think there should be limits.
But that's just me. Nola xx
our dog sleeps at the botton of our bed but on the bed she has her own blanket which stays there and is washed once a week i wash the bedding twice a week wouldnt have it any other way
she is a bit of a panicky dog so if left down stairs wanders all night and keeps us awake tap dancing (laminate floor and long claws)
my little dog does come upstairs with me if i happen to go for a lie down during the afternoon (yes, i do love afternoon naps). He doesnt during the night but i dont mind during the day. Dont think he's disease ridden either!!

I think animals should be treat as such, a dog eats off a bowl on the floor, walks on a lead an sleeps on the bloody floor and i don't think it makes you a bad owner for doing such, how anyone can have a animal that has dirty feet and licks its own arse sleeping in bed with them is beyond me confused
I have a 10 month old cavalier king charles spaniel. Quite literally, i cant stop him sleeping wherever i'm sleeping.
When i first got him as a tiny puppy, i tried to impose the regime i wanted - that he could sleep on his bed in the corner of my room but no on my bed. But he howeled and howeled and howeled - to the point where i was worried my neighbours would complain that he was keeping them awake (i live in a terrace and my landlady had saidthat though she couldnt stop me getting a dog but would throw me out the moment the neighbours complained to her about him).
I'm hoping that maybe when he's older and doesnt want to be with his "mummy" so much, i can move him back to his own bed. Any advice about how i can do this ?
Thanks, Trix xx
Mine sleeps on the bedroom floor, but never in the bed I can't stand the hairs! Not too worried about catching a disease from this...on the otherhand if I had to go into hospital I'd be pooing my pants about catching something.
I share my bed with one snorer thank you very much wouldn't want the joys of another. My dogs snore and expel wind very loudly and very smelly, how could I lie with that all night no matter how I love them??
Mine have blankets outside the bedroom, I'm with Tan on the laminate bit, drives me mad!

Have to admit i agree i worry more about cleanliness of our nhs than what my dog may or may not have

Yup it doesnt matter if you get them cut either we get ours cut every couple months and it makes no difference at all mad
The only animal I will have in my bed at night is of the human variety....
