There's been some really good ideas floated on here so far. My experience of event organisation only goes as far as running a bike club a few years back. But I always noticed many more people will promise to go than will attend. Let's be honest it can be hard to get some folk to attend a meeting of 3 or more :-) so I think this might intimidate a few.
I think it's better to start with a smaller event and have it over subscribed than the other way round. I like the idea of using butlins but the problem with it would be the staff selling the mobile phone pics to the press ( who will no doubt be interested ) Maybe a smaller but similar outfit might be used. then those who don't want to camp can attend too.
A tent isn't exactly the best venue for a bit of slap & tickle either.
Great idea though, Keep me posted on it.
ohhhh what a great idea biggrin
~~~wonders how many people would fit in my giant gazebo thingy lol
My opinion (Mr) would be that SH owners should take a look at the number of currently active Members and then half that number. Then take a guess at the potential response rate for an event that will need to be paid for - say 0.5% ?
So at a guess lets say there are 5,000 currently active members - halve that to get real people, that makes 2,500 X 1% = 125 potential attendees?? Not bad.
Bear in mind that the worldwide Site S*C advertise months on end for their cruises and take-overs, they have world wide pull but it is rare for one of their events not be sold out.
We would not attend a UK camping event but at a push would go to Butlins, or better still, a good hotel where weather would not be a factor in the enjoyment of the event.
I've been thinking about possible venues this afternoon on and off. Being close to Donnington Park I do know they have some spare capacity at the mo lol.
I also wondered about the Eden project way doon sooth where the wildebeests roam. Kinda fits somehow though I doubt they'd see the same way. We could all go native in the biodomes.
I think the key to this is getting the venue right. it needs to be relatively central, out of the way ( or sight ) and have sheltered areas for fun times.
I also think a camping only event wouldn't be well supported as I'm guessing the majority of SH members wont be keen on staying in a tent.
Are there any suggestions for Venues ?
