Debs called me a belly wanker, which is true. Self confessed, even.
That's as derogatory as calling Freck' a pedant.

It's actually quite rare to see openly rude posts being made. Abusive posts, should the occur, get removed and the member banned (permanently, or for a short while if the grovel well ). What some newbies (and indeed some regs) do pick up on is the amount of piss taking that goes on throughout threads. This piss taking tends to be in the form of humour when someone for example has posted a right clanger, something really innane, or a completely unrealistics and ill-thought out one-line "shag me" post. It's the same type of piss taking humour that you see amongst friends in all sorts of RL situations, and it is not abusive and usually quite harmless. If the object of the piss taking replies with humour him/herself what you tend to find is that they intergrate very quickly into the forum and people warm to them. Obviously if they reply in a very abusive manner they may be banned.
What some people also pick up on are thread hijaks.... yes, that happens a lot. Usually it is, again, good humoured, and often it occurs when the original topic has run its course. Malicious hijaks are rare and they don't tend to work anyway. Serious or very interesting topics tend to run for pages and pages... there may be minor hijaks throughout, or a series of posts that go off at a tangent to the original topic, but this is exactly what would happen in a RL conversation. If the topic is interesting enough it will be brought back into the conversation time and time again, hijaked or not. It is a matter of getting used to peoples' style of posting and going along with the banter. It really is quite fun once you get used to it!
