or put me right isent there a mod on all the time thats checks the posts
Nope, like MrsFC said, we all have busy lives away from here so its luck of the draw if there is someone here to answer or not.
I don't think some people realise how much time and effort mods put in as it is, its almost impossible for us to be here 24 hours a day. I didn't have a clue before I became a mod and sometimes I wonder why I did

I had to add my 2p! I'm a mod on another (completely unrelated) forum and people often don't realise how much is involved in doing this. It's an unpaid job that gets done well by most mods on forums but it doesn't come with any particular rewards - other than people maybe thinking twice about being rude to you! I'm sure most moderators have wondered at some point why they do it and none have come up with an answer yet!
My experience is that if a forum has the right atmosphere and good members, they will act responsibly and self moderate to the largest extent without the constant need for Mods to jump in. Not always the case of course as there's always some idiot on the loose but a good forum is just like society, inappropriate behaviour simply isn't tolerated by the general population and is nipped in the bud quickly :D
