Since joining this site I have had quite a lot of spam sent to me from other sex sites, apparently some one is harvesting e-mail addressed off the site then selling them on to the owners of other sexuale oriented sites.
I have asked several senders of spam where they got my address from and some have said that there is a list of e-mail addresses for sale, now why could I not think about it first it would save having to look for a proper job.
As I only use Twisted-Sister on this site, where else could they have got my e-mail address from.
TS
Good afternoon TS!
I've had the same problem in the past. It's a real pain. The other think is these pop-up which dont allow you to close or only have a 'Yes' button. I'm finding I'm having to delete cookies and temp files nearly every day.
It's even worse when your kids (as mine do) also use the computer and go on the internet for homework and something has been placed on your PC to invite the porn pop ups. If any internet techie has any idea how to block these I would be eternally grateful.

Alex, I got a pop up stopper free download from the sticky for free software. Godzilla. That works great...
mind you it didnt stop the pop up when I saw your latest webcam avatar pic!!!
Thanks for that Tall - I'll try that one.
Glad you liked the pic!
Sorry ...its called STOPzilla!!
You could try deleting the cookies in IE.
Every time you log-on to a site the site sends "cookie/s" to your browser where they are stored.
Some are short term and are deleted when you leave the site, some are permanent and are there until you delete them, or a set time has elapsed.
They are used to log you onto a site without going through the name and pass package....
They are also used to target you with ads according to your inet useage.
You may well log onto this site as but if you also log onto another as then that will also be in there.
Unfortunately, if you set the security/privacy to high, many sites will not let you log-on and others will become virtually unuseable.
I delete them every night...or when I can be bothered...I use "evidence eliminator" and just let it delete the things.
It also deletes all the sneaky little files that microsoft attaches elsewhere.
It's all about knowledge is money....
The item below is from another website....read and cringe...

Third Party Cookies
In addition, the third party companies who sell and provide advertisements to the site and host our contacts database make use of cookies for the purpose of serving and targeting advertisements more effectively. These are used for the following purposes:
Another tool that people may be interested in is LavaSoft Ad-Aware, which searches your machine for "spy ware" and will remove it for you.
Spy Ware sits on your machine and sends information about the websites you visit and other things like that, its very "big brother" and should definately be banned in my opinion.
You can get the freeware version from here:-
I check my machine every so often, as spyware as well as being nosey and giving away your secrets can also slow down your machine and take away bandwidth from your internet connection.
I also seem to be racking up the eu supply of junk email, I use an address for private use, eg shopping online etc... it's never been near a porn site or any subscription service, and yet i'm recieving 50+ junk emails from porn sites alone. Unfortunately, this will be with us for a while yet, a report released earlier this month shows that 50% of all business emails recieved last year were junk, this was a massive increase from the year before. Remember the golden rule, do NOT reply or click on the unsubscribe link on these emails, all this does is confirms your address is active and you will be bombarded with yet more of the same !!
Also keep your eyes peeled, as dedicated spam software is coming onto the market now, i'll dig out the names of some of them, most work by you identifying the spam emails to the program, this then collates all your junk with other users, and builds up a deffinitive junk email database, and blocks any email sent to any user, from an address contained within it's database. Obviously, the more people that use this software, the larger and more effective the database will become.
You can minimise them by using filters provided by your ISP and if you use outlook, set up rules and filters to block and delete, but this can be time consuming.
Alexandra, if not allready, look at setting up a firewall onto your pc, as well as providing a greater level of secuirty to your pc, this will prevent any trojan programs some of which act like the pop up problem you've experienced, from either accessing your pc, or will prevent any existing ones connecting to the internet. There are some good freebies out there, but if you want to pay for one, look no further than Norton Internet Security, the industry standard. Infact, if you're using windows xp, a firewall is included with it, however, activitating this can prevent the use of messenger and other similar services, wierd eh !!?
LavaSoft Ad-Aware is the best to get rid of your spy wares and add cookies. It very efficient. have a go at it.
I use BTOpenworld as my 'ordinary' email account and it has a spam filter which means that most of the junk doesn't even reach me. Otherwise I use the 'block sender' option if needed.
As to my account I have had almost nothing in the junk mail for ages, only one from another swinging site which obviously harvests email addresses, even though my email address isn't listed here! I only use the address for this site and a couple of people.
Fred is the guy to help you with stuff - have a look for the original thread about PC safety, he helped me find that my PC isn't sending out any information at all when I 'm logged on to broadband so that reasured me greatly. I also use Sophos anti-virus (courtesy of my employer) and and a pop-up stopper which really works.

Hiya Andy!
I have just downloaded it.
Anything special I need to know about/do before I install?

Hi Alexandra
I use AdAware as well and its pretty easy to use, so anyone with a modicom of knowledge (i.e. can read the instructions and not worry they'll crash the National grid) can install it and run it every week etc.
It does strike me as a 'manual' method though as it doesnt seem to run in the background on its own and stop stuff getting there in the first place - I find its great for rooting them out though!
Many thank feenix.
I am computer literate, just wanted to know if there were any issues I needed to be aware of.

They also do AD-WATCH, which sits and watches. It blocks a variety of pop-ups and warns of registry alteration attempts. Such as the rather nasty diallers which seem to get dumped on various people. Usually from porn sites. Not to mention the large variety of malware which attempts to alter your home page to etc.
You may like to note though that it needs updating very frequently. Ad, spy and malware senders also employ coders to beat the anti- coders.
Note that ad-aware won't delete the cluster tips, which are used to hide info on. Nor will it overwrite unused and recently deleted hard drive space.
Nothing will stop AOLs' attempts to upgrade me to AOL 8.0 by stealth, I have to end task to stop that...bastards.
until people stop replying to these emails, we'll all be lumbered with them. One of the companies that offers to sell miracle "enlarge your penis creams" recieves over 6000 replies a month. A report found that most of their customers were buying on average 2 bottles of this cream at a time, at $50 a bottle, it only costs them $5 a bottle wholesale ! they discovered this one company was making in excess of £3.1 million a year through this scheme alone !
