It is indeed and from a technical viewpoint very difficult at times, no excuse when it goes tits up I know, but its not like most other sites out there, although its not in the same league as Google either.
Thanks neilinleeds
But yeah, just with the Alexa toolbar sad
I don't have it either as i don't like 3rd party stuff running on my pc just so they can collect stats biggrin
I think there will be far more people on SH that are without the Alexa toolbar than with it.
Tony wink
I think that now..
because Alexa software is now detected by lots of software like "spybot search and destroy" and "ad-aware" as being spyware that there is less and less people these days using it thus Alexa getting less information from people about the sites they are visiting thus not so much traffic being counted.
Bare in mind, removed all software that contains spyware now so all the programs that used to have Alexa toolbars and similar in them ain't being downloaded so much now
If you look at the stats from some of the sites that have been around for a few years, many of them are showing as dropping traffic and only really the newer sites that get spurts in traffic..( in most cases, not all )
I just don't think Alexa is a good source now for showing the true traffic to a site
My thoughts anyway

lol.. even for google its saying a loss in traffic

OK Sam, I reckon:
Alexa is obviously a site member.
A toolbar is where she keeps her toys lined up ready for use.
A spybot must be the remote-controlled camera set up in her wardrobe for taking pervy pictures.

Right, in simple terms
Alexa is a traffic counting website

How they work
Sometimes when you download freebie software from the net, can be all sorts like free screensavers, free games and so on, they have Alexa software bundled in with them as a 3rd party software.
Some of this 3rd party software actually pays a small amount to the programs it is getting bundled with.
When you install this software and there is such a long disclaimer you think fuck that I am not reading all that, often in small words somewhere near the bottom it tells you that you are in fact installing 3rd party software that reports your stats to central databases ( in this case Alexa )
Pending on the software it could report just about ANYTHING you do on your pc,, in this case every single website you visit is reported along with a few other bits of stuff.
With this, every time you visit a site it reports your location, the website you visit along with other stats to without you even knowing ( often if you have to much of this spy ware crap installed it can slow your pc righttttttt down! )
Then these Databases make there money selling this information ( that you unknowingly gave ) back on to others.
Now there is certain programs you can download that remove this sort of crap from your machine, spybot and ad-aware was just 2 samples but there is lots of other good ones.
once you install spybot or ad-aware you can then scan your system, all this 3rd party shit shows up as "spy ware" then you can remove it, this will stop it reporting what sites your visiting, any other stuff it reports and speed your pc back up a little.
back a few years a go, very few people was unaware of this 3rd part spy ware crap that often gets installed with freebies and sites like Alexa could get good stats and show loads of hits to websites.
Now though, more and more people are learning about spy ware and removing it.
So now if you look on Alexa's website, some of the older sites that said it had x amount of traffic say 3 years a go might show it as having less traffic now, that not because the site has less traffic, its in fact because there is less users with there stat reporting crap installed submitting what sites they visit.
Hope that makes sense now
