I've started this thread because I find it increasingly hard to resist pointing out that certain people, (no names please, this isn't a bitchy thread) have the same grasp of the written language as the average ten-year-old. I'm hoping that I'm not the only one out there who finds it a chore trying to decipher some of the semi-literate shite that gets posted on here. There must still be a few of us on SH who appreciate and understand the need for correct spelling and good grammar. This is a thread for those of a like mind to come and vent, after seeing something so badly written that it made your brain hurt!
I will say at this point; if you are just coming in here to say "lol how sad grammer n speling is for loosers your a wanker", this this thread is here so that I don't shit up your badly witten threads pointing out how stupid you sound. I could compliain in there about your wanton cruelty to our beautiful language. However, I don't, so kindly do myself and anyone else who wants to post in here the same courtesy. I will also reiterate, DO NOT post any names or links to other threads in here. Posting a quote (leave the username out) is fine, if you see something particularly annoying or funny, but I don't want anyone bitching about specific users in here. That's not what the thread is for.
So, here's some stuff I find incrediby annoying when reading the SH forums:
Entire posts written in 'text speak', often with no punctuation; how arrogant of people to assume that the rest of us can be arsed translating their illiterate Retardlish.
Adults who still don't know how and when to use 'to', 'too', 'two', 'your', 'you're', 'then', 'than', 'their' and 'they're'. I'm not particularly intelligent, but I managed to get my head around that by the age of about seven.
And finally, and I know I've sort-of covered this, but sod it; whole posts with not a single punctuation mark in sight. Punctuation is important because (in simple terms) it makes what you've written readable. If you can't be bothered to at least try to use it, then I can't be bothered to read your stupid post!
Anyway, that's my rant over. Anyone else care to say what pisses them off about the way people write on SH? Be sure to check your spelling carefully!
While I appreciate well written prose I get my fill of it elsewhere.
This is a forum, a place for the exchange of opinions and ideas.
I prefer get a broad range of people posting whatever their level of education or ability to formulate a grammatically correct response, than pages of perfectly written text from a narrower section of users.
I would encourage you to be more tolerant of other peoples language skills, while reminding you there are many genuine reasons why people may not meet your standards in grammar and punctuation.
As for 'shitting up badly written posts to make people look stupid', I would suggest only one person is going to look like a cock if you do that.
If a sexy woman PMs to give me a blojob Im not going to say "sorry I only like blow jobs" :rascal:
I think you've missed the point, Fraser. This thread is here so that I don't feel the need to point those things out in other people's threads, which would be rude. I've had conversations with other folk in the chatrooms on this exact same subject, so I figured I'd open a thread about it. It's fine if you disagree, but if so, just ignore it and move on!
Oh, and you're missing the odd apostrophe here and there, bud'. And "I prefer get a broad range" and "your standards in grammar" are both grammatically incorrect! ;)
Edit: Sarah, could I have a go of your time machine? I'd love to check if its worth going out on N-Y-E 2012! :P
For me to read someone's post/email/whisper howsoever spelt is fine, It's the poor grammar that grates.
Having used incorrect grammar could mean that the essence of your post is lost and the recipient fails to understand your intention.
For example;
"I helped my uncle, jack off a horse"
Or
"I helped my uncle Jack, off a horse"
Both entirely correct....but meanings somewhat opposed and most certainly one would get you in bother!
But enough....this is a sex site....my inbox is over there....fill it with blojobs...!!!
Yeah, spelling itself isn't that much of a issue for me. As has been shown, I make the odd typo myself!
I have very strong opinions about spelling and grammar. As long as you can make yourself understood it matters not a jot.
I see what you're getting at, Cubes. However, bad grammar can make posts so onerous to read that it just can't be ignored. Luckily, I can move on, to this very thread!
I literally can't believe I've had to explain this for the third time. Maybe I should've called the thread "Spelling, grammar, and reading comprehension; what the Hell happened to it?". ;)
I won't lie to you Mids, all-bold, all-italic text isn't exactly fun to read on a computer screen either. Perhaps even more so than posts with no punctuation. Ow! My poor eyes! :P
I find your username quite fitting for you have to say it out five times before you type, ?
What the hell is the world coming to???
Much has been said about just being able to communicate. The profiles on a sex site are just the thin end of the wedge. The abuse of the language is found everywhere these days. OK, most are here to sell themselves in a way. It doesn't give much of an impression if a couple or whoever reading it think that that is the level of communication to expect. It seems today that many people use the hideous so-called text-speak in normal use not just for texting. OK when we send a text we like to abbreviate words but seeing the frequent use of i for I, 2, 4, R and U makes me cringe. The whole world has gone lazy and can't be bothered to use even a reasonable standard of English. I'm sure that its not that it doesn't exist its just that people are lazy.
To add to this I absolutely hate seeing words like 'Crimbo'. This bastardization of the English further adds to the sorry state we are in and what of the next generations?
Well done for raising the thread.
Off my soapbox now.
Smooth1
Just chill dude.....if you like the other person...and the other person likes you..then obviously the grammar used has worked just fine..so just make love.....or shag, whatever your personal preference is.
