A study had been released saying the sports cars are owned by men who are looking for nsa sex and that women view such men as a good time but not good marriage prospects.
We are looking for a new car when one of ours finally dies. My wife fully supports my desire for a MX5.
What do you think?
Anyone here have a sports car?
Are women with sports cars just out for a good time?
We find soft top sports cars are ok, you can drop the roof and have a lot of fun in the sun!!!
There's certainly something dinky about the MX5 but there's a real driver's car underneath too, based as it is on the classic British roadsters (in particular the original Lotus Elan). Although not an out and out performance car they are way better value than the mainly German alternatives and have an enthusiastic fanbase who love the sense of freedom and fun the car inspires. The very fact it's been in production for over twenty years, with relatively few changes along the way, speaks volumes about its ongoing appeal.
Despite the usually lousy weather I've read that we buy more softops in Britain than anywhere else in Europe (so maybe we are a nation of optimists underneath, lol). They are a bad choice for straight male swingers at least though imho. Despite the initial perception of sex appeal a lot of women complain they fuck up their hair when driven at any kind of speed whilst the direct heat of the sun on a hot day is uncomfortable when stuck in traffic. I drive a classic 60s saloon with a full length sunroof and although it receives many admiring comments from all types of people, I've often been asked to close up even this by female passengers during journeys of any length.
Anyone who says the MX-5 is a girls car has never driven one!Lots of fun just be careful in the wet!
As an ex owner of an MX5 MK2 I think it was the most fun I've had out of a car in donkeys years. Reason for selling complicated but I'd have another tomorrow. Yes impractical, and I've been told it's a girls car, (perhaps because it's so painfully pretty), but they are a great drive.
The current MK3 looks ok until you see it next to a MK2. I shall shop for the last of the MK2.5's (2004 or 2005) if I go for another. Of course I'd rather have had a Ferrari, but as affordable options MG or MX5.
Yes the Mx5 is a poormans sports car, but has all the power that can be used in UK.
i own an mx5 bbr, and if anyone here knows MX5's will no that this is one true sports car, (200 bhp in something with the weight of a feather is not to be laughed at) its a Mk1, and fantastic fun, and with the roof down, very easy to have some fun and frolics in..it handles like a dream, and is very controllable, and no nasty supprises. Its cheap on parts, cheap on insurance, im 43, 7 yrs NCD and its £290 a year fully comp...cant say better than that for somthing that can make £40,000 plus cars ashamed
RX8, expensive to run, well, you need to use rotary oils, and they are 3 times the price of normal oils, the servicing is astronomical, the fuel consumption is rediculous, the road tax (i know its registered as a 1.3, but the Co2 is massive)
if money is no object, then yes a real fun car, and great to drive, just watch out for early models, as enjine tips will need replacing, if not a full engine re-build will be required.
Kind of got involved in the MX5 thing and ignored the first posts reference to sex. When I was 24, (a very long time ago), I had an Austin Healey 3000 and I had a crash in London. Hit a car rental, first day driving in London and ignored a halt sign. Car was off the road 6 weeks during which time I had to cadge lifts everywhere, almost never had so much sex!
(I say almost because there was an earlier busier period in my life as a sex God)
So I discovered that having a sports car is at least as much of a disadvantage as an advantage, there's a large percentage of the population that will turn their noses up at your for being a flash git, and just being your own honest but poor self is usually just as good. For a car to make a difference it's got to be fucking big and expensive, and it probably helps to be George Clooney or Jenson Button driving it, but perhaps it works for fat megabucks company chairman too.
What's the point of a sports car?..it's still a car.
Buy a bike, you know it makes sense.
As the owner of an MX5 I can tell you it will give you the best time you can have with your clothes on. Unfortunately getting your clothes off in one is another matter entirely....
