Do you prefer to have a Steam Room?

I'm interested as to peoples opinions of the Steam Room cool
Grrrrr I can't get the Poll to work mad Will try again in a min evil
In case I can't do it, the question is...
Do people prefer to have a Steam Room
Yes
No
Don't care either way

Do people want one, and if so, why/why not? biggrin
I'll start as I've begun the thread 8-)
Yes I do think there is a place for the Steam Room. It's a good way to keep all those everyday niggles in one place rather than a thousand threads...
For instance "Bluddy Insurance Companies piss me off", they do  I sometimes like to rant about things like that, I don't want a thread on it, cos I don't think my Insurance gripe warrants it's own thread. It's kind of theraputic to write stuff down tho, bash it all out, offload, it's easier to step back from then I find.
Hence why I'm one of them people who's not keen on just a load of icons being typed out and a 'that's better' after it, cos it doesn't look better, there's no offloading etc....... although I have been pointed out to, quite rightly, that sometimes words and explanations can't be used because it might cause offence to another member, which the poster does not want to do.
There are a fair few people who do use the Steam Room, and from it get some bluddy good advice or even comfort, which is a good thing.
Some say that the Steam Room is a bad example of SH posting, cos all it does is give off bad vibes. I'm not so sure about that, I think having it all contained in one easily accessible thread is better than several different threads. I also think the advice/comfort often given displays a wonderful side to SH members nature 8-)
I'm interested on what others think about the Steam Room, is it now a redundant part of the forums, or is it something people still think is a good idea?
most of the time it doesn't even resemble a steam room!

I agree... and am guilty myself with this evenings lighthearted post...
>probably hence; it's removal<
However... yes...Steam is goo in my opinion... maybe a few reminders to keep all in check etc etc...?
lp
in edit:when I say *goo* you should read; good
Why has it been removed???
It's just been cleaned up has it not and was only into its first page?
If people want to use it then fine, if they dont then the just dont use it. It's that simple.
Lots dont like the GFZ but it remains because its popular, I personally see no difference between the two.
Keep the steam room!! mad
With my wrinkles I need all the help I can get :giggle: bolt
Keep it! Like Missy said, it's better to have rants and raves in one place rather than all over the shop despite the occasional hijack
keep it...its the best place to find out whos pissed off at who, whos flouncing and whos having a dig at who in the shortest time rolleyes
Keep it......lets us know who the whinge bags are bolt
Dave_Notts
Keep it, but if people want to offer comforting words, maybe they could send a PM. I've ranted in there and been guilty (sorry Missy) of posting a load of emoticons so that someone doesn't get upset. I don't go in there for the :therethere: 's though, even though they have been offered. I've also had some constructive advice via PM as a result of posting in the Steam Room.
So yes, it serves a purpose.

Aaah so now I know who's responsible!!
I think the Steam Room is a good idea. There are times when you want to have a good rant but don't really want to wrap everybody else in it. Hence the Steam Room. It doesn't go much further than that though.
It's also quite entertaining - but if people want to seriously, seriously rant then they should feel free to post in open forum and see what happens.
.
I think it should be kept, but I don't agree with people NOT being allowed to respond soothingly and/or sympathetically to the rants on the thread. It's weird if it's just people ranting and then seeming to be ignored.

That's fair enough, but it often turns into a long stream of :therethere: and kiss doesn't it?

Works in our house lol

I voted No for various reasons.
Firstly its a vehicle for people to draw attention to a situation that quite possibly should'nt be in an open forum whilst often in the process hurting others. If you need to rant about a person's behavior then have the balls to PM them, that way half the site does'nt have to be involved.
It's too easy for things to be misconstrued in the steam room as very often the whole rant is not written, just hints at what the problem is. This leads to misunderstandings and upset when there perhaps is no need for any.
If someone has a steam that needs to be aired, why can it not be in it's own thread? is there a restriction on space? (Im not techie), if there is a problem with moderating because of an increase in threads could we not have a few more mods to ease the load? It's not going to cost anymore is it as they don't get paid. I don't think more threads would be a problem as I have definately seen a decline in the amount of threads lately, compared to when I joined.
Obviously I can see that lots of people feel that they would like to keep the steamroom. Thats fine. As someone else posted, if you want to use it, do and if you dont want to use it, don't but it would be good if people just chill out and let the MEMBERS of the site use THEIR forum the way they want to. Threads get hijacked ALL of them so why should the steamroom thread be any different. We are all adults and all capable of knowing when a hijack is appropriate and when it is not.
Fire x
Mostly I find it to be pointless crap (which often appears to be posting for the sake of it) - however, it does keep the crap from spreading all over the Cafe floor... which could lead to health problems...
so keep it!
Is it really a big deal?
As fire says, if people want to post, they'll post, if people don't they won't.
If people want to fill it with nonsense hijacks, then they will, if they want to use emotions then do it, does that really matter in the great scheme of things?
Taking it away is a bit like confiscating a childs toy with the 'if you can't play properly, then you don't get to play at all'....
It's a forum ffs, does it really matter?!
Mike, minx and mallock-
And as fire said, is there a premium on space? There certainly seems to be a decrease in threads and replies, so why stop people posting more (even if it is mindless crap to some, to others it's important crap) And if it's a question of more work, then get more mods, i'm sure there would be plenty of volunteers....

I pretty much agree with the above......ok I was in there the other day cos I'd lost a pair of shoes.....but whilst I know how silly a thing that was and that it wasn't important at all, I just wanted somewhere to voice that, in the absense of anyone to voice it too......so i did.....if this was the wrong use of the steam room then I apologise.....
I think that it should go ahead as it always has....ok it gets hijacked now and then......but there again how many other threads get hijacked by the usual suspects....there's nothing to be done about it......
Another thing....
Why does it have to go missing for a couple of day to be "cleaned out" dunno
Its quite simple to delete posts that are not relevant or indeed to clean it totally and start a fresh...
Just an observation....

But isnt that the forums all over?
how much of the forums are actually to do with swinging?
I accept, im one of the worst for hijacks, and inane smartarse comments, and that will never change, yes, I, like others should maybe sit back and think before posting, including the steam room, but I have only a couple of times let off steam in there, and from that, PM's came into my inbox with some advice, and for that, I am grateful
Someone may read someones rant, and realise they have either been there before, or know some info the poster could make use of, but doesnt want to say it in public.
But if someone doesnt feel a whole thread is justified in putting that rant up in the first place, they may never have got their answer, wheras a single post in the steam room would be enough
So my preference would be for it to stay

With the forum sadly fading fast, I thought the powers that be (and I'm not talking about you Missy lol) would want to encourage any kind of input, not enforce even more rules of how one is allowed to post. dunno

Now that I can answer :lol2:
When a mod removes the thread into hiding it can take a while to work through. Click to delete, then click to confirm on every post and there can be tons.
If the thread is put into the hands of St3v3, when he has time he can just delete the bits we no longer need with some magic buttons making it sooooooooo much easier. He will then just leaves it for a mod to put back when we log back in. In all honesty, most of the time its just a time saving thing. Why take 2 hours to do something one person can do in 2 minutes confused
As for the steam room, I don't really mind either way. I've used it a good few times but if it wasn't there I'd just email Shireen :lol2:
Off the top of my head……
I say keep it, read it or not, use it or not, as you will, but ffs, stop sweeping stuff under the carpet every time it goes in a direction you don’t like, the floors so bloody uneven in there someone's going to break a leg.
