In case anyone wonders why recruitment agents are held in such low esteem, I present Exhibit A:
Hi John,
We are looking for several people who fit the following Job Spec, if you are interested please email a word version of your CV back to me stating rate details and Availability.
If this job is not relevant to you please accept my apologies but if you could forward it to anyone you feel would be more appropriate I would much appreciate it.
---------------------------------------------------------
Role: Java developer (3 month contract)
Salary: £40 -£45 per hour
Location: London, Holborn

Now, first of all, my name is not "John", so he gets a big black mark to start with.
Secondly, I'm about 130 miles from London and my CV makes it very clear I have no wish to relocate.
Thirdly, when I got a job a month ago I removed my CV from all the job boards.
Yet still I receive offers of jobs I don't want, all of them miles away. Ironically, what I rarely receive - even when I was unemployed - are offers of jobs within a realistic distance of my home.
Being a person who as moved too many times in the past few years I would have to say that I dislike Letting Agent's more than Recruitment Agents.
Dx
are legal liars and thieves.i cant stand them which is why if i buy a place i do it without them.
Recruitment agencies, letting agents and agency bosses are basically pimps.
(with the exemption of anyone reading this who happens to have a position in any of the above)
£40 an HOUR??????? thats what i earn a DAY as a Nursery Nurse!!!!!! mind you, i spose you'd spend that much in travelling!! lol
Theres always SOME annoying person who has to look on the bright side and make a joke, sorry!
And I thought Java was just another blend of coffee...?

Yeah, it's silly money. But the problem with contract work is you have to expect periods - possibly long periods - when you're out of work There's also no sick-pay, no pension, and you're at the mercy of the bastards refusing to pay you at the end of it. Plus there's the hassle of paperwork and setting up your own company and...
Yech. Glad I'm out of it!

London? Surely the location would have to be Djakarta?

How to get yourself off our Xmas card list. Yes Ben and I are both Estate Agents who work over 60 hours a week, take abuse from tossers who blame us for their house being a shithole and not selling. Mind you we must like it as we have been " Property Professionals " for a combined 33 years.
However Ben does have a black Mercedes so he could be mistaken for a pimp. lol
Ps. What is it you all do for a living?????
I knew someone would be out there, perhaps estate agents arent the pimps im thinking about. Pimps tend to be the assholes ive had to endure, taking great credit in finding me work in any part of the world where there is an international crisis and I can be shot at, and I would imagine earn more money than I would in there airconditioned orifices watching CNN and asking wether I still wanna be on there books. The usual checks are
" do i have to pay you for this conversation?", the usual repsonse:
"no it was included in your initial consoltation fee!"
If I was around long enough to buy a house Id certainly like it via your books, gee I bet the office boy enjoys coming to work! wink
I have found footage of roger doing his former job
It's the one named.........

Just put my house on the market and the estate agents are pretty good. The bad name estate agents get is not justified in my opinion. Then again, ask me again when I have actually sold the place

Letting Agents..................
argh...!!!!!
hey roger, if ever you get any more jobs like that in london then i will be happy to be the person you recommend.
(al though my Java is only uni standard so its your call)
I work for a mobile department in a web development company doing front end stuff. (php and the like) <-- bit long winded
Fraid I`d have to say I loved my Agency! That proved to be a great way for me to start getting a foot in the recruitment world with very few qualifications under my belt. They managed to secure me a really important (albeit temporary) job which looks great on my CV!

Have worked for recruitment agency's before ... (as staff not a temp) and Morbius was a Recruitment Consultant for a while. The job I'm in now is as a result of an agency too.
So positives here ... unfortunately recruitment can attract real no hopers grrr.

Half Serious rant. You know Estate Agents are doing well because the last three or four I've spoken to about a property have not asked me for my personal details. Mailing lists are surely absolutely key for any business that's not handling all it can manage right now.
I revived this thread because it just happened again on the phone, "Sorry that one's been sold", no "can we take your details Sir" or any old madam like that, just "Sorry that one's been sold".
More cluelessness:
6 houses on the same development, all broadly the same, one house for sale 'second hand' same agent advertising the new houses. I enquired about the occupied house, only to be told it was sold. At no point did anyone say 'we've got 5 others available' , I only found out about them when driving past. I know it's money for old rope with the market as it is in some areas, but this was in a relatively quiet area and an end of the market where you have to put in some effort confused mad
It's not universal, but the laziness and arrogance of a few does the trade no favours.
Well, I'm well pissed off with the general state of the market right now, got my flat on the market and progress is damn slow, very little activity as most of the other flats around here aren't going either, getting to a point where I'll be thinking of giving the place away or selling it on eBay!
mad Would understand it if my place was a dump, but it's not ... far from it! :x

It's easy to feel like that, but chase your agent, do you think their details are good, are they on Right Move or another web presence, would a lower price point create more interest, is yours in their window. We're in a similar position. There may be a bit more action now the schools are back.
Hi Guys
Things to look for in your Estate Agent.
Dont go for the highest price and lowest fee, they are the desperate ones.
Ask them what they have sold similar to your own.
Look for an agent that has the highest number of sold boards.
Look for an Independent agent, where the ownwer is in the office. Its his company and if he doesn't sell houses he wont pay his bills. A corporate agent will have a fat pay cheque every month wether or not he has sold anything.
Have at least three agents round and decide from thier presentations and attitude. Do they know the market??
Never sign an agreement for more than 8 weeks, if they are good you can always renew it.
Good luck
ps not all Agents are a waste of space, some of us work in excess of a 55 hour week.
