having been to France in early May and noticed how the £ is weak against the euro, most families have been forced to cancel their foreign holidays....where would you recommend to members to visit in uk during this coming summer holidays, promote your town or village if you may.....
for people living in busy towns and cities i recommend hereford because its quite and peaceful, there is all kinds of hotels and restuarants to meet your every need, the night life is great clubs go till 3am...you also find guest houses which are in the middle of rural and farming areas and its only 110miles away from london
visit hereford this summer and make a difference in your life!
PM me if you need more info(not meeting)
depends on what you want?
beach holiday then south coast or cornwall
hills, isolation, great pubs, lovely locals and pure tranquility - yorkshire dales :inlove: :inlove: my favourite place on earth
mountain climbing- highlands
plenty of lovely citys too for the city break crowd!
something different - canal boat on the norfolk broads

the south coast
we have the navel dockyard with HMS Victory HMS warrior and the mary rose a seafront with fairground niteclubs
and further along we have the south downs with err hidey holes redface
and last of all us southern lasses

Hey this is one of my favourite places ever in the world ever ever ever. And i reckon a necessary place for any Frenchman to visit wink
Weymouth is my choice for a seaside town either that or Bridlington both ace places. If theres plenty of £ around then a long weekend in London, wining, dining, Westend evenings galleries museum and sightseeing days can't be beaten anywhere in the World
Ooooh- as it happens we've promised the kids a weekend trip to see Victory this summer. Not that I wanna go see the big ship at all. No siree. innocent
Any where on the coast, just sitting and watching the sea will do me, oh and the weather must be warm.
The beautiful South Wales coast and Valleys ( slappers aside of course :giggle: )
We've got Cardiff with the stunning Civic Centre and castle and amazing shopping, The Museum of Welsh Life on the outskirts and gorgeous conutryside no more than 4 miles away in any direction.
For a little drive there's the lovely Gower, Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. Down to Narberth and you'll find a little place called Canestan ( no not the fungus cream  ) and they have a place where you can play Crystal Maze with Oakwood just up the road.
And of course, a selection of home grown hotties :smug:
good thread...
we usually go on holiday once a year abroad but this year havnt got round to booking anywhere yet due to the Euro being very strong, we will either wait until later in the year to see if the Euro gets any better or just not bother while next year
Don't come to Brighton, we're full. Feckin tourists taking over the beach, pushing up all the prices, causing traffic jams, leaving garbage on the beach, then there's the hen and stag nights who happen to go past my flat at 2-6 am seeming to believe that the quieter it is the louder you have to talk.

Hi Voddie from across the harbour wink
I'd agree with you on the Solent area as a great place to visit ... everything you mentioned but also don't forget the spectacular Spinnaker Tower right on the buzzing harbour front on Gunwharf Quays, the submarine museum on our side of the harbour (who wouldn't want to explore a real sub? ... oooer missus!). Then there's the New Forest less than an hour to the west and Hayling Island with its funfair a few miles to the east. Yep - a cool place to be.
PS
<<<<< Check out the sunsets!

I spent sometime in the valleys a couple of years ago and Wales is truly beautiful and so are the people, they really made me feel welcome.

As a Welsh ex-pat (by upbringing rather than birth) I have to say I really miss the place.
As an alternative though I've always found deepest, darkest Cornwall to be a wonderful place to get away to. Gorgeous countryside, beaches, bays and great people.

We've had some lovely times in both Wales and Cornwall.

surely there must be somewhere in uk which you can substitute for that this year...apart from the sun and beaches what are your other interests am certain some members can recommend fantastic places within the shores

I wouldn't have thought families could simply cancel their foreign holidays on the strength of the euro being the way it is, don't you have to have a justified reason ie, illness/doctors note to cancel a pre paid holiday?
Besides that, I have noticed that things are changing rapidly, cheap flights are no longer cheap and the price of a foreign holiday will continually rise until your average family will be struggling to finance one sad
I'd say the Lake District, camping outdoors is absolutely wonderful you come home feeling totally refreshed and healthy (stinky but healthy lol )

They'd lose their deposit at least, I expect.

Well we certainly couldn't cancel our holiday because of the euro.
We will just have to stretch our spending money a little further than normal by enjoying free places to visit such as parks and beaches.
I think that the OP is saying that a lot of families are being forced into having to cancel plans for a foreign holiday, rather than cancel pre-booked/payed for ones.
Our next door neighbours have decided on going to West Wales this year instead of Portugal where they have been for the 5 years saying that the costs are so much more.
My folks are suffering the power of the Euro at the moment. Living in France on a relatively basic Pension from here they are losing a high proportion of their income. They have had to cancel one of their visits back here to England on the merits of it.

Pedantic little bugger tonight aren't we? :giggle:
If the reasons for not going to Europe are because the Euro is too strong then simply go to somewhere where the pound is strong e.g. The USA. Relatively cheap flights these days and much as I dislike the Yanks they treat tourists okay and there's plenty to do there, and if you go to somewhere that isn't a tourist hotspot then they love our accents too. Though it has to be said a pharmacy assistant did think I was Australian!
How about somewhere really adventurous (if you don't have kids) like Hedonism. Or if you do have kids how about doing something unusual like a naturist holiday, either at home or abroad.
Let's face it, with a bit of imagination and not doing the chicken and the line thinking there's tons of things to do.

Whats strange about that phuckers? He said that if the pound is weak against the euro, but strong against the dollar the USA makes sense. Completely rational.
