Hi Guys and Gals
I would like to pick your tech brains again as i am usless lol
I would like to convert my mp3s to something smaller so i can but more music on my mp3 player but i dont know how. I am sure some of you nice brainy people on her will tell me how.
Thanks xx
I doubt you'll get smaller than MP£. you could try to re-encode the mp3 to a lower, variable bit rate (VBR) thats about it. there are other formats but there's a good chance your mp3 player can't handle them.
hmmmmm ok

Yep I'd second that advice. MP3's are about as efficient a file as you get really. Lowering the bit rate also lowers the quality and I'm sure you wouldn't want that.
Can you tell us the make and model of your MP3 player - you may have other options wink
Although I exclusively use MP3 to keep my collection uniform, at low bit rates (more squished) WMA gives better quality playback.
You could try this but it will always be a trade off between space and quality.

WMA? I've always found the quality to be not very good!? It seems to be ok at medium bit rates, but anything else tends to sound a little 'thin'.

re-encoding mp3s, dont bother as they will sound rubish, always work from the original WAVs or CDs
problem with VBR/CBR MP3 are supported by any MP3 player, problem with VBR ones can be that the time elapsed/remaining many times does not work, in my car its useless but with CBR its fine.
CBR will mean that files will always be a fixed filesize for a given length based on encoding rate
VBR will produce variable sized files
There is a format called MP3 PRO but its not supported very well.
AAC is the other major format supported by many modern music players and generaly produces smaller files for a comparable quality in MP3 format.
