The Sweeney
I was in lust with Jack Regan for yonks and I was only a baby then lol
For realism and good writing:
THE SHIELD
NO CONTEST.
I wish Bike Squad hadnt been a one off.... it was really funny and serious at the same time re: issues of up to date policing..
Not saying The Bill deoesn't but I felt Bike Squad was a refreshing change.....
I used to enjoy The Profesionals..
Seems quite corny when I watch the reruns on tv lately but it was good in its day.
Yeah the Sweeney was the greatest.
I even went a long way out of my way to buy a mark one Granada several years later just because of that programme!
Only trouble was is was an unreliable heap of shit, God knows how they ever caught anyone in one.

Without doubt for me it was "the Sweeney" Without doubt my favourite. Ok racing around in a Ford Granada shouting "your knicked my son" Maybe a little corny now but What a programme at the time. What was your favourite?
Saying that, Of course I onlyb remember the repeats redface

As you have said the Sweeney was just the best. Out of America it was HSB. I loved watching them both. Don't think you will get shows like those anymore....not policticaly correct now!! But remember...." be careful out there " ! lol

was it me or did quincy always shout lol

He had (and has) a very raspy, scratchy voice; he lost a vocal chord or two to cancer.
I really like Waking the Dead- even the episodes I don't understand!
Totaly agree with ya lost, Sweeny has to be the best by far.
No-one's mentioned Z-cars recently.
When the little blond PC got shot I cried my eyes out.
And what about Softly, Softly?

I loved Bike squad anais, and was gutted to see it was a one off! I think it would make a cracking series.

Can we stretch it a little and add private dick programmes?
Moonlighting.
I had such a teenage crush on Bruce Willis redface

I've avoided watching Die Hard 4.0 in case it was awful! Die hard is one of my fave films, possibly 'coz Alan Rickman is such a good bad guy!
Now theres a thought- a Bruce Willis - Alan Rickman sandwich!
Would I?
Whadda you think!
What about ...... Magnum (god you're gorgeous) P.I.?

p.s. He was gorgeous though ...... before he had the 95 face lifts ........ he now looks like a very sick and plastic 80 year old......... I think he is actually about 60!
Hill Street Blues for me. Groundbreaking and a heart as big as a big thing. Basically it was a soap that happened to be about cops. There was some class TV on about then among the rubbish that is always there.
Someone has already mentioned Edge of Darkness and Between the Lines. Lesley Vickarage getting it on made a deep impact at the time. The recent Bleak House got a lot of good reviews (well there is a detective in it) but the 1980's Bleak House with Denholm Elliot in it was the best TV I have ever seen anywhere.
We love "cop shows" we're currently watching Lewis which is very good....Also rewatching Life on Mars which is just simply fantastic....Its serious one minute and then hilarious the next...and the music is great to....Gene Hunt what a hero !! ....Not forgetting Prime suspect and Cracker....
I think lots of the US shows are good to very well made....My favourites are and were NYPD blue, CSI, Bones and not forgetting the amazing 24.......
I know it doesnt count as a Cop Show, but I love the film Hot Fuzz.
Every time I watch it I laugh my head off...........but then, I like Dirty Sanchez so that says alot for me...............
