The cost of fuel

We are all grumbling on about the cost of petrol and ddiesel?
I had an email from my sis in NZ and it's thought over there that one day blockades are going to do very little to change the situation? I think we all agree with that?
Her's a suggestion that might just work - from someone in NZ i believe?
"If for arguments sake everyone stopped buying fuel from one of the big guns like "shell" or Texaco? eventually they would have to reduce their prices or loose countless millions of pounds?
Everyone here for the purpose of this could both collectively decide not to buy from one of the above, then tell everone you know not to.
If we all done this, and let's just say it was Shell, they would have to reduce fuel costs, if they did this the others would have to follow because once the price came down everyone would switch to them leaving the others out in the cold, thus creating reduced costs, and a price war?"
does anyone agree with this logic?

i see what your saying, and there was a email thats been doing the rounds saying something similer.
however the companies you named aslo supply, or get supplied by other retailers.
there is a similer thread , but the search button isnt my friend lol

The only problem with that is that it isn't the fuel companies that are fleecing us, that would be our very own government. Approximately 84% of the price of fuel that we pay is tax. Based on a price of per litre, of that is tax, so the fuel companies are only charging us 17.6 pence per litre. Hardly ripping us off eh?

I agree, it's actually the government tax that makes it so expensive. They don't stand for it in the USA... but we do
I had a diesel volvo for a while, and regularly filled it half diesel, half veg oil, and it ran better and had less emmissions. It's legal, if you pay duty, which defeats the object really. Should be more campaigns to make it legal.
Does smell like a chip shop if you stand behind your car though ;)

The fact that the Oil producers are holding back on production volume and thus increasing the cost per barrel to $150,00 Wasn't it $10,00 a barrel in 1997?
Somebody somewhere is having a larf at your average Joe Public. Once again we will lie down and take it. What seriously are the other options? Changing the Govt nahhh driving slow by truck? nahhh (though to be really applauded for doing something at least) writing to our MP nahhh, accepting the fact yeahhhhh might as well its less effort.

you miss the point the truck drivers had their protest because they had to pay the same price as the rest of us i agree with a boycott of petrol stations that charge over the odds there are some near me that i wont touch but i also think its going to get far worse thanks to the tree huggers

Also, as i understand it, we get told to use lpg to save money, not so i hear... lpg is cheaper at half the cost but i was told that it only does about half the mileage per gallon?
It seems to me, that we all need to buy a horse .... except? vat on horses? or feed? pmsl

I do to, far far far worse. The government will collect taxers via the road users as it is easy pickings and guaranteed income.
I think hold off on the powered vehicle users a bit lets start having some tax on Push bikes. They have their own bits of bloody road let them pay for it. and electric scooters oh yes and MOT the buggers while your at it hmm insurance might be an idea as well while your at it.
