If the general interest in posts of low interest is increasing, then interest in interesting posts we can assume is increasing at a greater rate. Therefore, these uniteresting posts are creating greater interest in all posts , and as such would surely increase the number of interesting and uninteresting posts, thereby the cumulative effect being a more interesting forum. :shock:
If you apply the formula:
guff * bollocks + opinion/whinging = interest
you will find that overall interest in the forum is increasing exponentially and it will eventually explode. Any drift away from the forum is a selfless act as it will prolong the life of the forum overall and we should welcome it. Inane posts are increasing the drift and therefore have a positive effect overall on the lifespan of the forum.

I am ashamed that the established forum members are treating the new folk like this. Has it occured that he might not have the contacts via the PM system to bounce around how he feels? We were all inexperienced posters once and it is down to the more established to show as example how we would like to see the cafe when we pop in.
So many people have said on this thread, each to their own. One mans rubbish is another mans treasure...... who is the judge? In my opinion it is the job of the mods to pull the threads that are breaking the rules or not going anywhere. If it's really rubbish it simply falls off the page quick enough. I find the endless stream of "hi I'm new" quite irritating as I post "hi, welcome! " then find they have already bolted!

Thought provoking this thread certainly is and it made me smile in places and cringe in others.
Im on 500+ posts now and they have all been complete and utter drivel, but hey thats me.

I read posts, not all, and i don't reply if i feel i have nothing to add.
Each to their own, we all have to learn and SH doesn't come with a "users guide to perfect posting" we all had to find our way.
Funky, what can i say, you inadvertantly stirred up a hornets nest, did you get stung mate or were you lucky this time???
This is an issue that has no right or wrong answer, inane posts may spark conversation such as this one or they will slide off the bottom without reply(as mine tend to do) or the mods will lock them for having no purpose.
i think the latter 2 options are best, as this makes people who start a thread realise that if they want replies then they have to start with something interesting to catch peoples eye.
Ultimately it was really LC's comments that started this off as it was more interesting(imo) than Funky's openening line, what would have happened if he hadn't replied? Where would this thread be now? we shall never know, however we will see in the future.

I would just like to apologise to anyone I may have upset and especially to the Funk for my strong words last night. I responded to the thread title in a rash manner and in retrospect I would have worded it differently. It was just a comment I made in passing about an issue I feel concerened about and how it affects the forum. It was a rant and I felt the need to let off some steam. The way I initially approached the subject was very out of character for me, but in truth I am not my good self at the moment. Must be the weather.
I sincerely hope the Funk will contine to post and I have sent him a PM.
Hopefully normal sevice will resume ASAP.

Do you mean that if someone is well liked on here then even if they make a post which upsets people they should be given allowances? Or does that mean that if you say something once which annoys people all your posts from then on should be treated with disdain? What does the 'surely be treated with consistency' mean please?
