The Medium question

I bumped into a website discussing mediums, clairvoyants, etc.
I've never visited a medium, clairvoyant or whatever simply beccause I do not believe in them. I do however believe, due to my ancestry and upbringing, in a spiritual world.
My question is: Have any of you visited a medium or clairvoyant and were told things about you that she/he just wouldn't know, have any of you guys seen mediums that provided any evidence that they may have any 'powers' whatsoever?
Have any of the clairvoyants said "aha you're a swinger?!" lol
Or do you all think, like myself that it's all just a trickery based on "confirmation bias" whereby some people tend to notice and to look for things that confirms their beliefs?
AWOL
Ive been to see a few mediums. Although im still undecided whether I believe in them.
Some seem to be better at it than others. Whether that means that they are just better at reading me or they truly possess these skills, who knows?
Once a medium brought through my nan. They described her exactly as she was, her personality, things she would say and even brought up her favourite place to visit( which was Hastings)which also was the last day out that we took her on and she throughly enjoyed.
Was it a lucky guess dunno
I would love to have definate proof one way or the other.

I have had my palm read by an old gypsy lady who knocked on the caravan I was on holiday in with 5 mates when I was about 17. Being that age we thought it would be a giggle and did the old ' crossing the palm with silver' bit as requested. She read our palms privately in one of the bedrooms and when she left I can tell you that none of us were giggling
She had told every one of us things that she could not possibly have known or intuited ( one friend had almost died when a horse box door opened unexpectedly and hit her, another friend had had a miscarriage, another friend had a baby with a hare lip). You get the picture ;)
I have also been to see one 'psychic' and one 'clairvoyant' who also claimed to be a 'medium' and decided I could have made it up better myself rolleyes
I think there is definitely something in it, but there are a lot of charlatans about as well.
I used to go see a clairvoyant now and then... I was quite sceptic about them but thought I'll give it go and went along with my SIL!
We didnt say we were related through marriage and when the lady came to get me..she asked us both if we knew who ****** ? Was the name of my husband... scary!
I was careful how I answered questions so not to give any information away etc.. she was very spot on with a lot of things i.e. how many children I had, how many children I had given birth to..different figures! Some of my jobs I had and even came close to what I did in the future.
Other stuff I had no idea what she was talking about...
I taped all the convo's I had with her an play them back now and then an some of it now has an element of truth in it.. confused :?
She also told me I had Pshyic cababilites... I just know Im going to get a good snogging session soon

Have had my palm read twice.
First time was when I was about twenty. I only remember two things other than thinking she'd got my personality traits absolutely right. Firstly that I would live long but have either a bad accident or major illness (which I would fully recover from) and I was destined to be far from home.
Second time was in my mid/late thirties and my (now ex) partner and I had them read separately - ensuring it was at different times so no connection could be made between us - by the same reader. Our readings were like chalk and cheese in what the future supposedly held for each of us (definitely two separate lives!).
However I was told that I had had a major illness/life event (which was by now true) and that I was on the road to recovery. I would lead a long and active life. I should beware of trains! I would end my days abroad, far from home (she may have been more specific in saying I would die abroad, but that could be my memory), and that although I'd experienced the highs and lows of love and relationships that I would truly find love, and be truly loved for who I am, again but not currently!
Sort of put the mockers on that relationship! lol
As for the other things -
I did have a major illness (but now been clear for 8 years).
I have moved away from the place where I was brought up.
I travel abroad as often as possible (at least twice a year), but only dream of moving there at the moment (waiting for the lottery!)
I travel on trains as and when convenient or necessary - I don't avoid them - but have a little shudder every time a hear of a rail disaster.
Whether it is intelligent questioning/conversation manipulation or we pick out the things we want to hear, I don't know, made me feel good at the time though - especially some of the validation aspects of it (after all we all like our own opinions about ourselves to be confirmed).
I went to see a Romany palmist a few years ago and everything she said was bang on accurate. She said there was a family history of 3 things...3 things which I have had. Ur probably thinking rolleyes anyone can give a guess at that but there were other things she told me aswell. One of them was that sum1 "worshipped the ground I walked on" (Mr Cream when he was trying to get in my knickers :rascal: and was after me for 13 months). She also described a friend of ours saying she was getting in the way, or sumthing along them lines. There were other accurate things aswell that I can't remember, I wish Id have recorded it! I think she also told me accurate things about my dad who passed away years ago. Yeah, I think she knew he has passed away and I think even said how he died.
I agree with biwelshminx that there are cowboys about but I would definately go see a romany palmist again!!

I've never been to see one myself but I am actually planning on going to see one that a pal of mine has seen in the past. My friend went to see her recently and played me the tape of it afterwards. My friend had just started seeing a new fella who was a fireman, during the session, the medium started talking about him and was totally spot on apart from she kept saying that this bloke had something to do with the law.....my friend said, 'no he's a fireman' but the medium was adamant about him having something to do with the law.......after my friend played me the tape we were both confused about it as she'd been spot on about everything else.
A few days later my pal rang me to say that her new beau had just turned up at her house wearing a suit confused she asked him why he had a suit on......he told her he'd been in court as he's a magistrate
Whilst at times I can be cynical over stuff like this, this woman was really spot on, and I'll definitely be going to see her for a chat sometime soon.
My mother went to a gypsy and the first thing the gypsy said to my mother is "how is your asthma mrs ****" yes my mother had chronic asthma and yes the gypsy got her name right .. the gypsy told my mother several things while in that little room and my mother came out white as a ghost
Tony wink
A gypsy on Blackpool's Golden Mile told my auntie, "You have two children but they're not yours" - she'd adopted 2 brothers earlier that year
Interesting replies, thanks guys... however one common thing has emerged from all this though, that the clairvoyants, etc. failed to see that you are/were going to be a swinger! lol
But joking aside I'm still a bit sceptical about them. Maybe I'll do a Houdini one day and visit them to try and work out if they use tricks.

On a non  note,
I would like to remind everyone here that there are loads and loads of charlatans around, these people range from complete novices who con people out of money to "professional cold readers" who seem to be the "real deal"
I have been involved in the practice of magic (not the witch - craft stuff) as a hobby for a number of years and have seen some magicians do "psychic readings" as part of their acts. These guys are incredible and pick up on things that we subconsciously give away and when we give these "tells" and they find what in this area of magic is called a "hook" they use it to great effect and seem to be nothing if not completely genuine. They also generalise a lot of information that applies to a vast amount of people, i mean who doesn't really have money worries at times, and spends a little more than they should now and again knowing they shouldn't, you see these are all generalisations that apply to the mass populous and are used by these guys to "lure us into a false sense of belief".
Derren Brown is famous for his "cold reading techniques" he actually convinced a church full of fanatical christian ministers and church goers he was the new messiah.
I dont want to give a negative viewpoint and slam those that believe, i have actually visited a christian spiritualist church, we turned up unannounced and the old lady there gave information to me that was DEFINATELY NOT general information that could apply to anyone and it made a believer out of me. All im saying is that everyone who goes to these so - called "pay and tell" psychics all have one thing in common, we either want a message from someone who has passed or want to believe that this person has divine powers, so in doing this we in a sense hand them the powers already.
There are too many fakes and frauds out there willing to lead innocent people up the garden path......just like on here
This ISN'T a size thread is it?
