I refer to the thread.

I dont think locking this thread encourages forum participation and although look at me posts are mildly irritating they will generally die a natural death anyway. Furthermore it could be argued that the majority of new threads and posts are essentially look at me in some form or another.
What do you think.
I think the vague nature of what he was saying was why the thread was locked.
Your right in that not many people would have replied ordinarily, but these type of threads all too often can lead to hijacking and gang ridiculing, which we as regular users see as a bit of fun and to some degree protecting the site from idiots who come along every now and again to upset the flow of what we usually do here.
Non regular users however, may see it as a form of bullying of a newer member (which in SOME cases I can see where they are coming from) and this would obviously be detrimental to the forums and the site as a whole. Lots of newer members dont really get what the forums are about at first, some never really do, and they can and should be forgiven for that on the first few occasions(I know my first posts were extremely misguided).
The Mods have a pretty difficult balancing act I imagine, sometimes they get it wrong but hey were all human, however most of the time these type of threads and posts just clutter up the forum with useless and unneeded text??
In a lot of cases I agree with the 'natural death syndrome', and allowing these to go their natural way.
Sometimes a thread like this can become enlivened and become really rather entertaining.
A little like and 'introduction' thread that can come to life and allow a new-ish poster to become active on the forum and feel welcomed and involved... a chance to show themselves.
this opportunity has to some degree been lost in the Cafe with introductions being given a section of thier own.

Good points well made Srne.

Not bad for a Sunday morning mate wink
I happen to agree with this. So many new faces so few recent new forum regulars.

You have to put this into context though benrums, this is a swingers site and many people who join are after the sexual side of the site, and many don't even realise there is a whole community based around the forums.
I use the site almost entirely for the forums now, sure, the sexual side of things always runs in the undercurrent, but it's the sense of belonging to something rather than being a profile in a plethora of others that made this place unique. I look for peoples usernames straight away when on the forums as I like their posting style etc, but each person has their own reasons for being here.
The first thing I do when i log in is go straight to The Cafe, but I know people who have been on the site for 3 years or more who only ever look at the adds! 'Least were holding the forum fort ehy?
cool
Why don't you go into the Intros thread and encourage people to post in the Cafe?
Just a thought...
dunno
I have to agree. I wouldn't have brought this up as an issue myself, as I feel that the mods do have a hard job - but I felt in this case, that the locking of the thread and the reason given was harsh.

Cherry I agree with you on all of the above!
When I read this thread when it was posted, I thought it was said with humour (tongue in cheek way) and not a look at me kind of way. As that day everyone was locked on the site from the evening before. I had never witnessed so many people on the site before.
I could be wrong!

The problem here is as it has always been. What one mod deems ok another will not.
There seems to be a world of difference in mods opinions on things, that are well away from any AUP.
What one person finds offensive another will not. That happens on here a lot and with new mods here with new mod hats, trying to do what is best can seem " harsh ".
For me I agree that the thread was locked without due cause really, but as I have said...many other mods would have kept it open.
Singing from the same hymn sheet would be massivly beneficial at times.

Would that be "All things bright and beautiful" by any chance? innocent
Why not invite Simon Cowell to moderate the forum? He has team members but but usually gets his own way in the end confused
The OP always has the opportunity to request a review of the decision to lock a thread. I don't see any need to change that. Besides, there is great honour in being a member of the BLTC which is hastily withdrawn if the thread is later unlocked
