Anyway, aside from the obvious, how in the world do you make yourself sleepy when you are not?
Any suggestions?
I have tried herbal tea, masturbating, reading and watching cricket.

Lets recap the times at yours.
First .. so drunk I made friends with a bucket.
Second .. discovered that it does rain in Wiltshire ... LOTS. Still was tipsy, had to I was nervous ( hell you would be too if you were in a tent with a certain naked couple :twisted: )

My best mate has trouble sleeping too and tried all kinds of remedies.
A warm bath just before bed sometimes helps, a milky drink, lavender pillows, soothing ambient music or even try Valerian from the health shop.
The trick is to make your bedroom a restful haven and that means no tv/dvd, low lighting, no reading and make sure the temperature is right. It may help to change your mattress too.

i tend ..after having tried the masturbation remedy three times without try and remember the names on the class register in alphabetical order from my first class in infant surname begins with s and i very rarely get to it surprised

I tend to read most nights. I carry on reading until I find myself dozing off then quickly turn the light off and snuggle down. Works for me!

Why do you want to sleep, if you are not sleepy? Leave the sleeping till you're ready for it. smile

sleep depravation is not nice and you need to do something to switch the brain off, all that will do will make it worse sorry.
I was getting 3 hours sleep a night no matter how drunk or sober i was last november all due to stress. If you have a alarm clock by your bed turn it around so you cant see the time. Do things in 20-30 min stints so if after that time you cant sleep read a book for 20 mins and try again and keep repeating it. Try going to bed at the same time every night regradless of how awake or tired you are, its a question of reconditioning the body in to a patteren.
mine only really started to settled down when i moved into my own flat and therefore a part of the stress was removed.
Hope this helps as I know how it can affect work and just general well being.
I have bouts of insomnia and it's horrible. I have several completely fallable methods but they might be worth a try.
Keep your eyes open. Sounds stupid but have you ever noticed when you're driving that trying to keep your eyes open makes you more sleepy. Pick a spot in the room and stare at it. Sometimes this works.
This one's even worse. Pretend to be asleep. It's one of those management training,walking on hot coals philosophies. Enter the situation in the state you intend to leave. Tell your body it's asleep and it'll do it. Again this sometimes works.
And if masterbating fails you could alwaays get someone to come do it for you cool

funny you say that, when i was at home with ex i would constantly almost daily and still have sex with her when she was in the mood which was not that often. But now I'm on my own I hardly ever, only when like last night i was so stupid horny that it hurt.

I suffered with insomnia for years, but I have found that a "talking book" on my walkman is brilliant. I keep the same tape in it for weeks, and it's like someone telling you a bedtime story over and over again. The half hour comedy ones like Hancock's half hour or Dad's Army work particularly well! wink

When all else fails, I just get back out of bed and go and do something. Fighting it makes it worse - go with it.
