For me part of it is to do with the brain. If I don't feel at ease and comfortable with the person, then it isn't going to happen and in the same vain, if I don't feel the chemistry it isn't going to happen, it's almost impossible to know what makes that right combination though.

let's face it we aren't always in a situation where we get to see personality first so nature's way is that of personal attraction via looks. It's only really since online fora became so popular that people have been able to gain insight into a person's personality before they've been able to see what they look like. Online dating/swinging etc has totally changed the dynamic and it is fast becoming more normal to prioritise personality over looks.
On the other hand someone who's drop dead gorgeous and has a nice personality is never going to go short

a bar of soap dont cost that much does it?
we still laugh about our very first meet - a guy easily 15 years older than his prof, dressed as man from oxfam complete with bicycle clips. i feel minging when im at a club an see al the other gorgeous girls.. then theres me... i feel outta place. im short not particulary pretty im to gobby... and im fat... i have the lowest self image, and it stops me from gettin naked an doing the nasty..... i end up chattin all night.... takes an awful lot of encouragement for me to shed my clothes an even then i cover up.... i fell that i have a great personality but not a body or face for swinging... 
and thats honestly how i feel on it... so i tend to socialse rather than get down to it....

If I find someone ugly on the inside I will not play with them. Likewise - if I am not physically attracted to someone I will not play with them – end of story. However, I have been known to have the physical attraction grow on me from getting to know and liking a person better , so I do honestly think it is a mixture of looks and personality.

Eeewwww.....being new to the scene, I am shocked at how many postings have mentioned they have had meets with people who have needed a bar of soap. If I pluck up the courage I obviously need to go armed with a scourer, jiff, razor, deodorant and camping shower!!!! Not for me I hasten to add
