I can't remember the top ten but i know that Radiohead got the number 1 spot with "OK, Computer"
Honestly, I've never heard such rubbish
I'll see if i can find a link for you though
Hmmm bit cheeky calling Radiohead rubbish, but I was surprised they came out on top over Beatles and Nirvana.

I nearly shit a brick when Radiohead came in first ! I can only imagine that next year it will be an album of Gregorian chants , which is the only thing similar to the dirge !
and as fer feckin Patty Smith FFS , thank goodness Bob the Builder never released an album or he would probably have come just above Curtis Mayfield .
Radiohead ! ? Im sure it was listening to that album all the way through that led Kurt to finally top himself.
Possibly the longest post i've ever seen!
I don't like Radiohead. I think it's made for depressive teenagers. I'll take my hippity hop or proper rock any day of the week.
Like Oasis, and Jimi Hendrix. Now they're brilliant. I'm having a bit of trouble seeing how Definitely Maybe beat What's The Story (Morning Glory) in the list though. They're both great albums but surely Whats The Story...... is better? No?

Read a great website today that throws a great shodow onto whether he did top himself or someone else bumped him off. The more I read the more I'm inclined to believe he was bumped
He made a good album first Calista , thats the main thing :-)

Nope Im 24 not a depressive teenager biggrin
It just depends I guess if you can really Listern to words that mean a bit more than the repetitive hip hop bollocks thats all about just making money not about making damn fine music that can shivers down your spine every time you hear it.
Yup massive Radiohead fan and damn proud of it :smug: I wouldnt have personally put Ok Computer 1st Id have chosen Kid A,but Im not complaining. :D :D :D
Some of it's good i'll give you that.
I think The Bends was the better album though

Oh no The Bends is a fantastic album but nothing in comparison to their later again Street Spirit still makes me shiver worship
Thats a strange looking list that is !!
I can't believe that Brothers in Arms is so far down whilst The Verves contribution is so far up !!
For me, Pink Floyds 'Dark Side of the Moon' would be number one, but i am biased lol
How was list compiled, and by whom ??
The mind boggles, so i'm going to continue numbing mine with Marstons Pedigree

Creep is ok but to be honest its pretty dire in comparison to their better stuff,Though I can relate to the lyrics.
:karaoke: "Im a creep Im a wierdo, what the hell am I doing here,I dont belong here" :karaoke:
Yuo that definately fits with me a lot
Thats the only problem i have with Radiohead. They get you down.
But i suppose all great musicians are manic depressives. Wasn't Pink Floyd songwriter Roger Walters one too? i may be wrong

They dont get you make you think, make you sit back and absorb every last word, send a shiver down your spine, make you smile at the words that give you good memories, etc etc biggrin :D :D
Its all about how you interpret these things :D

Lol maybe you're right.
Maybe it's just me. I don't like shivering to my music lol
Well I have 22 of the 100 so I guess this makes me vaguely cred. Only one Smiths album on the list, which was very disappointing, although The Queen is Dead is easily their best. As for Dido's inclusion - don't get me started! And where were the Manics????
Still, I'd love to know who actually votes for these lists - no one's ever asked me......
Now that Clares finally got that off her chest rolleyes i might get a word in,tuh.
Ive had a good look at the list and theres no New Order is this since without them there wouldnt be a lot of the great bands about now????
The list was taken from a shortlist of 125 and the public voted.I'm actually quite surprised to see that OK Computer is still the number one album as quite often its the band of the moment that gets the it goes to show the lasting appeal of it as its been around for 8 years now and people still rate it so highly.I guess the fact that so many of the newer "proper" bands are heavily influenced by them is one of the reasons.
For all of you who think Radiohead are boring and depressing remember that OK Computer and the albums that have followed are some of the most groundbreaking since the like of Pink Floyd and The are the band that are setting the new benchmarks in music that others will follow for many years to come.
It does seem incredible sometimes when they come out with these lists, but this one seems fair enough to me.

Steve - I agree that New Order are one of the most important bands of the last 20-odd years, but I'm not sure they ever made a seminal, great album. Maybe Low Life, I guess, and certainly compared with bloody Dido I'd put it in. And Joy Division were there.....
New Order fans probably spread their votes too thinly. Moby has had as many albums out, but no-one is going to argue that he's done anything as strong as "Play", so all the votes went one way there. Then again, New Order were always a singles band, and none of their albums were strong all the way through.
Depeche Mode didn't even get into the shortlist of 125, despite an organised effort by their fanbase to stuff the ballot box - something they were outstandingly good at in the past, forcing the BPI to award 'Enjoy the Silence' single of the year when it only got to no.3 in the charts - funnily enough that was the only year the general public got to vote :-)
Joni was there!!

Thank You!!!
I would have said that any day
Are you having a laugh? Admittedly Oasis churned out some good songs, but they're nothing new. radiohead were pioneers with real, raw talent and musical ability. You cannot be serious in saying that Oasis are a better band confused:
Personally I find these polls/surveys a waste of time as people just end up arguing about thier own favourite I like something I buy it regardless of polls/surveys.
I have to bow to the massive support they have , and even im not conceited enough to stand up and think I know better than such a ground swell of opinion as that which is behind Radiohead . Ive nothing against sad songs , and lyrics are the most important thing for me in a track .
That said I wont talk like an great authority because im not , but I will say I just dont get it ! I really dont get the status afforded to Radiohead by their followers . Contrary to suggestions I HAVE listened to the lyrics ( though it was quite tough at times as the actual backing tracks dont help with that ) and they are good words , but by no means the cleverest most insightful or most profound ive heard - even amongst very similar bands . I dont accept the comparisons made with some of the bands that changed the face of music forever at all , in fact musically in terms of structure or form they bring nothing at all that I see as ground breaking or even original . I will let them have the fact that their videos are often quite good .
I suppose what im saying is they strike me as almost pretentious , in the way that its all such hard work . Its like the amazing quality of their music is some 'great secret' that only those who 'understand' would appreciate . I dont think music should be that way , and its just my personal preference but i think sometimes when it comes to songs using complex lyrics with hidden meanings where a simple line with a good melody could have been is less entertaining . If i were to try and define a good song , id start with entertaining , then touching , then emotional then very last thought provoking . If i wanted challenging first then id write a musical score for Proust . All i mean is music pop music should make you walk away first feeling better for having heard it , and if it provokes thought as well then thats a cool bonus.
Anyway like i said perhaps i just dont get it .
Theyre not to my taste and thats fine , are they a good band ? Well im sure they are and certainly far more talented than me . Did they make the best album ever ? I cant accept that no .
