Was wonderin, did anyone see that show on channel 4 the other night about 'Comedians top 100 comdians' (I think it was called)? I didnt see it all the way through because my 2 flatmates wanted to watch Match of The Day but I would really like to know was voted number 1.
My personal favourites have to be Billy Connolly ( I suppose his popularity has decreased after his recent comments about Ken Bigley) and Bill Hicks ( a true revolutionary, well ahead of his time). I managed to catch Peter Kay Live at Manchester on e4 and must say that he is also funny as fuck.
I suppose a lot of folk will have different favourites but its all down to personal taste and interpretation.

Jimmy Carr is a current favourite ...
Bill Engvall for american comics ...
but you can't beat a bit of python ...
Jimmy Carr is a pretty funny presenter, has he got any stand up or live stuff?
Bill Engvall - cant say I have heard of him but I will defintetely look out.
Python rocks.
I've never been one to 'get' python, but thats the Canadian in my blood.
I LOVE Eddie Izzard and Lee Evans. Lee's Show at Wembly left me weak for hours. Peter Kay is fantastic and Steven Wright is another top contender for my comical affections.

Strange that, I wouldn't really describe either as comedians would you? Comic Actors, sure, and Peter Cook was a truly fantastic genius like Spike, and both comic writers, but I think of comedians as doing stand up rather than sketches. Peter Kay does that well.
I thought Eddie Murphy was good when he was a young stand up comedian in Connelly is very funny but sometimes goes too far....Ricky Gervais has done some good stuff.....don't know if anyone has heard of The Office......??
Jimmy Carr is the funniest comedian I have ever seen.

Adam
If you are ever in Manchester Tim Clark is worth a look IMHO very very funny
Funniest man on the planet imho is Eddie Izzard.
Seen him live twice and both times I wished I hadn't.
My stomach muscles ached for days.
Genius.
i love any form of comedy
for story telling billy connelly is no. 1
for real life humour peter kay gets it
check out peter kays phoenix nights cool
I like almost anything Pythonesque, including Fawlty Towers and the Rutles.
My favourite comedians would have to be Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson, particularly their performances in "Bottom".
I think Johnny Vegas is funny and Peter Kay stand up is hilarious

Never really found phoenix nights more than mildly amusing..........as for the Max and Paddy spin off.........just not amusing
ooooh... comedy... something i know a little about.. i think...
i was really surprised that bill hicks was not in there anywhere as most people list him as an influence....and was the first one i really got into
as for current comics... have to agree with johnny vegas, peter kay and ricky gervais i suppose...
and before they turned to other things... mark thomas... chris rock.... and dennis leary were brilliant....if anyone ever sees eddie murphy in delirious when he rips the piss out of mr.T it is 10 minutes of pur genius.....

Jimmy Carr is definatly my current favourite, since eddie izzard hasn't done much live stuff this year. His humour is drier than the sahara!!

max and paddy was really the road to nowhere and not funny yes
i guess i like the club because it feels like you`ve been there before
Tommy Cooper (No 1)
Peter Kaye
Rik Mayall
John Cleese
We love Billy Connolly in this house and Johnny Vegas is pretty funny too.... It's difficult to pick really as there are so many talented people out there, and lets face it, it really is down to your sense of humour...
But for me, the best ever live show I saw was Jasper Carrott in the early 80's and I cried with laughter all the way through the show and my stomach hurt for days.... He was stunning back then....

Mike Ried of Eastenders notoriioty is pretty damn funny
The late Bob Monkhouse I found was also very funny but you had to enjoy his type of humour..
billy connerly
lee evans
could watch them all night they crack me up
WOT??? No-one has mentioned Jasper Carrott??? Well add him to my list anyway...
The current crop...
Jasper Carrott
Peter Kay
Lenny Henry
James Nesbitt
Past Masters...
Ronnie Barker
Spike Milligan
Leonard Rossiter
John Cleese
Seem to be out of touch with new comedians at the moment. But for stand up my favourites are still Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard. Billy used to be hilarious but I guess being married to that dreadful Dr Stevenson has finally worn him down. Just not as funny as he used to be - infact he seems to have disappeared up his own arse.
Bill Hicks was fantastic and before he became a writer Pete McCarthy did some funny stang up. Both sadly missed.
I recently watched a video I found in the back of a cupboard of Rob Newman and David Baddiel - it was from the 80's when comedy was just becoming Rock and Roll. Was amazed at how unfunny it was because at the time time I thought it was great (think I went to see them live about 3 times - must have been because of Rob Newman's hair).
Im still not scared to say..............................
Steve Coogan
Peter Kaye
(Enjoyed Nighty Night recently - funniest thing I seen in a long time. I know I know not a comedian...)

i'm not sure who i would class as my favourite. as it depends on the mood i'm in.
but my top ten would be ( in no order)
Frank Skinner
Dave Gorman
Lee Evans
Peter Kay
Ben Elton (a oldy but still funny)
Jasper Carrot
Jack Dee
Rik & Ade
Eddie Izzard
Tommy Terrian
JGL
For me, it's got to be Bill Hicks.
Way ahead of his time and still totally relevent now, particularly his 'Gulf War' and 'War on Drugs' stuff.
Dave Spikey's very good too, very much like Peter Kay (unsurprisingly) but a little nearer the knuckle.
