So I'm trying to rid myself of a general melancholia, and I was wondering if anyone puts any faith in natural remedies like vitamins and whatnot?
dunno
High protein... a la Atkins
Lots of male sperm taken orally :rascal:
If you've been ill or suffering long-term stress, a general multi-vitamin for a few days might well help you recover. No point spending silly money, Asda's own would be fine. There should be no need to take them for more than a week.
If there is no obvious physical reason for feeling down, extra vitamins may help but equally may not. Either way I would alwasy make sure your general diet is strong on fruit and veg and lighter on fats and proteins. Swapping your bread and cereals to whole-grain, nutty, brown stuff can help.
This time of year it's really common to feel down - lack of sunlight is thought to be a culprit. How about getting out and about in the sun if that's at all possible? Having something to look forward to often helps - get yourself booked onto a Munch or Social biggrin:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Otherwise, a chat with your GP wouldn't hurt.

I swear by Vit B6 100mg.

Erm... whichever one means that I feel crap, useless and sad. Melancholia is just a nicer sounding word than depression. dunno
i thought it was depression. i'll send you something to think about.
See if you can get your hands on a light box to give you a boost of artificial sunlight. I have a female friend who went through something similar, and the light box helped her to the extent that she was able to reduce her anti-depressants (with the help of her doctor).

I was going to be naughty and suggest going on the sunbed but Cubes' idea's a better one :lol2:

Not thought about that... Light boxes huh? Off to Google.
I don't think it is S.A.D - I've decided if I still feel like this by the end of the week then it may be time to go to my GP.
In the meantime, I'm playing my favourite songs and trying to cheer myself up. It's not working - but hopefully I'll fall asleep soon enough.
Hope everyone else has a S.A.D-free week! lol
we love you nola xxxxxx
well you know i do anyway xxxx

Thanks to the change on your wonderful avatar, we will have a happy week. Thank you so much :rose:
redface Awww - I should be sad more often.
You're all lovely - as is the poet in my inbox. wink
Poet in my inbox?
Is that a Euphemism? Or is Willy Shakeshaft up to his old tricks again eh? the Bard-steward...
There's plenty to amuse oneself... Go through the photo's and look for the worst wallpaper you can see. Honest, after a few pics you wouldn't notice if a David Beckham was rogering Tony Blair in the foreground. Then you can go onto other aspects of decor too. It's like being Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen without the need to be a cock.
I could go on... and I frequently do.

Feeling down?
looking for a pick me up?
seeking something natural?
If your willing to take control of your general well being a visit to your doc is in order.
Ask about some light exercises you can do.
I bought my mum a treadmill... 10mins a day on that thing & she felt more responsive, her coordination, well being, general level of fitness & energy had improved, all in the just the three weeks I spent with her!
Any form of regular physical exertion will trigger chemical activitys within the brain known as serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine & the well known endorphins :bounce:
These chemicals have a large effect on your mood...
exercise will release these mood swingers helping to reduce feelings of anxiety, stress & depression
Wanna give it a try?
get a skipping rope...
hoola hoop
or go swimming
when you need more of a challenge a gentle run just above walking pace...
All these activites & many more WILL give you the happy feelings we all need!
Hope my comments will help - Good luck!

yeah- I have been thrilled to death at getting up at flippin' am and running every other morning... and it would seem that 'we' now 'need' to run more often to fit in with wor lasses schedule. :uhoh:
Seriously tho' Nola. I may moan and whinge but my general mood is lifted and I am sleeping better which helps too. When I started I was walking more than running but now I can run 5.5 km without feeling like I am going to die on the road.
