Firts of all set your target but do not under any circumstance get weighed every day as advised previously as you will stress out that you may have not lost anything and just quit.
Andy

Each to their own Andy. It works this way for me and it could equally work for anyone else. Your way worked for you but I would lose interest that way - I have to see regular progress and waiting a week would just not do it for me.
I'm very much overweight sad and gained a stone over summer due to my op. It is so depressing :( :(
However, I started a lower carb eating plan 3 weeks ago and have lost half a stone already. I am still eating carbs but generally I love bread and potatoes, so I've cut bread out completely and limit myself to two potatoes or one spoon (depending on which is the smaller). I love my porridge for breakfast though so have reduced how much I have.
I've upped my water intake massively and don't drink any tea etc after lunchtime. I'm trying to increase my exercise by walking to work at least once or twice a week, swimming at least once a week and then whatever I can at home, wii-fit, step machine etc.
I want to rejoin a gym but just can't afford it at the mo.
The aim is to lose another half stone for xmas, and then at least two stone for summer next year. At that point I should only have a few lbs left to lose to be my ideal weight of just under nine stone
P.S why do you class yourself as athletic build on your profile if your saying on here your over weight? lol wink
oh come on be fair athletic build
even sumo wrestlers are athletes lol
i know many heavy build ladies and gents through work etc who though look overweight are in fact healthier and fitter than the average joe .
Around 19lbs in 10 weeks here, I bought a book about GI foods, the food in there is traffic light, green, amber, and red. Only bought Green Stuff, 3 meals a day, inlcuding breakfast, lunch, and a main meal, all eaten at around the same times of the day. Working here at moment.

Hey well done! worship
I've been in a bit of a Slimming World rut for the past three weeks - nothing really coming off - but hearing stuff like that gets me motivated again!
Mind you, I suppose I should be comforted by the two dress sizes I've dropped since the summer! I'm just too impatient for my own good.
Right, that's me told... I'll be focused now for Christmas!
Remember, it's ok to feel hungry!
I think so many people have forgotten what hunger feels like!!!!
Just because you feel a wee bit hungry, does not mean you have to eat!
Anyway, for loosing weight- ditto the others-
EAT LESS, DO MORE.
Simple!

I'll second that
.
I have been following the "caveman" diet for a couple of months now. I initially saw it in the Sunday Times. I have lost about 1.5 stone and feel much better for it, and that is without being fanatic about it. Not only the weight has come off but friends have commented on how much better my skin and eyes have become. It has to be noted that it is NOT the high protein high fat low carb Atkins type diet which so many people have pointed out is dangerous. It is just a sensible way of eating.
Having lost over 2 stone over 18 months biggrin (exercise and fairly healthy eating) I'm almost at my target weight and feel great. Next step - I'm planning to buy a rowing machine (I've been looking today) probably second hand and finally try to get the six pack back and reduce those handles. At the end of the day I guess I figure its taken me 20 years+ to get into the shape I'd becomes, so its no surprise it takes time to get back ! So best of luck to everyone with getting into shape.

I lost quite a fair amount of weight by joining slimming world, its fairly easy to follow and nothing is banned.

I help run a slimming world club and cant praise the eating plan enough. But excercise combined with healthy eating is the way to go.

 I agree, hunger pangs can also signify you're thirsty, drinking loads of water can often keep hunger at bay.
On the weeks I drink loads of water, I lose more weight.
