Think I mentioned my dislike of the word minge earlier . I dont know why , and id love to hear from anyone who has a clue of the root and origin of the word as that would be interesting . Its just the sound and inflection of it , it does seem to suggest something unpleasant . Whereas cunt used in its descriptive literal sense can be quite sexy in a tacky kind of way . Also its something Silky and I have discussed before , the use of swearing in the UK is unique in that even the most offensive of swear words can be used by men especially with the right context as a term of endearment , for example if you frequent the building sites of this fair city you will often hear banter maybe after a particularly corny old joke the response from quite close friends might be " Youre such a cunt Dave" , meant obviously in a comic an affectionate way . Or " you coming up the pub ya wanker ?" will be heard at clockin off time .
However the chances of two brickies playing football shouting " Over ere on me head Dave yer minge" is very slim indeed .
So should we pronounce minger with a hard or a soft g?!
And apologies to all those who have to suffer me, I was raised by a lorry driver!

The spoffle theory only works until the word starts to get used in other contexts . As soon as you start to hear people calling Jeffrey Archer a bit of a spoffle it will become as offensive as all the others :-)
While I've always had a soft spot for women who swear like troupers, using the word cunt on its own has never appealed to me as its connotation is so bad and abusive.
However "daft cunt" amongst bloke is almost a term of endearment.
So we come to "front-bottom". We use that term with our young daughter (tho use technically correct terms when dealing with specific bits & bobs), some friends use vagina as a generic term however that's just as befuddled.) I dislike it intensely however it serves a purpose.
Do the better travelled members here know of any culture where there is a socially acceptable term for the front-bottom?
arky of Sparky.
I'm a mere male, but I have heard that some women are trying to make the word "cunt" more acceptable by preferring it to more coy words like "pussy" or "vagina", partly in the hope that it becomes less used as a term of abuse. Sounds like a good idea to me. Anyone seen "The Vagina Monologues"?
Mike.
You mean Jeffrey Archer isn't the spoffle of all spoffles in his spoffle-like way?
OMG, I am so sorry. I am the one who said 'shaven haven' and started this whole thing off. Chris, just you wait, me, you Caz & Randy will have a big Scrabble arguement in a couple of weeks, I promise.
BTW, I detest "gotten" and slap him every time he says it.
"gotten" was actually an older form in English English, and appears in the King James version of the Bible (1662).
Mike.
I've just read the book about the Vagina Monologues and they are attempting to 'reclaim' the word Cunt but I'm not sure how well it will work really. Mind you I reckon the stage performance must be a damn sight better than the book, which I found quite boring.
I found an old thread on the topic of the Vagina Monologues....
