Oh dear.
As if the Concerts thread wasn't bad enough.
Now another thread where SH members proudly display their love of anything middle of the road.
Is it me or has anyone else noticed the affection on here for "mega" music and stoneage stuff?

MQ you have a most excellent taste in music !
i was at carl barat from the libertines xmas party, kelly osbourne was there
boy was she a stuck up twat

Thanks rich biggrin I'd love to meet Carl and Pete, despite him falling by the wayside and getting into bother, I want to mother him lol!
ive met em both pete is quite a charmer however i hear bad stories of him from one of his ex'es
carl is a bit of a pompous twit or came across that way at his xmas do probably to do with the amount of colombian's finest that had gone up his nose that night
by all accounts sounds likepete is doing good in rehab though
I listen to the radio a lot. So i hear just about everything. mainly classical and jazz. If I buy anything it is usually a film score.

sorry just music is probably biggest aspect of my life and it influences many of the decisions i make
ooooooo a music thread?
well . . .
i'm yer average old school punk indie kid hippy goth metallist, that thinks the Sisters and the Kennedy's and Bauhaus are about as good as ya get, with a tad of yer acoustic Roy Harper and Neil Young types, with a bit of yer jazz funk stylee thrown in, and a bit of yer 21st century lamacq live session stuff thing with a touch of the D*** fuelled 1990 thing, and the whole "damn i looked cool in black and silk" goth thing, and a bit of the John Coltrane blew a mean sax, and Chet Baker can have you sorta weeping, and then actually Gorecki is pretty sad, and as for Arvo Part . . . but Miles Davis is way funky, and Philip Glass is a bit good, but have to say The Killers and Kasabian and The Duke Spirit and Bloc Party are shit hot, not to mention the latest QOTSA and the ole Kurt Cobain stuff, oh and ain't the Pixies bloody good, etc etc etc
oh and being leeds lads, we're made up that David Gedge has some new stuff out! biggrin
is that eclectic enough, cos i'm always open to new MP3's? :D
n x x x x ;)
I'm a bit of a retired rock chick myself, Skid Row, Aerosmith, GNR, Lenny Kravitz, Thunder, the usual suspects, and I love Bowie, probably his earlier stuff most, I recently went to see Elton John who was awesome and have tickets to see Ms Minogue later this year smile
neil have yer got the bloc p[arty album its absolutely fantastic
if yer after a bit of chilled out eclectic try the postal service
very good indeed
we're listening to a lot of modern electro right now - the hacker, felix the housecat, radioactive man, peaches... plus some more punky stuff, lcd soundsystem, le tigre... then there's the industrial - psychic tv, throbbing gristle, the young gods.
but thats just today. i'm going to be listening to a lot of country music tomorrow. smile
ahhh i been listening to a lot of le tigre as wella t mo
and im going to see lcd soundsystem tmrw in leeds my friends the research are supporting
sweet. they're supposed to be amazing live... le tigre are touring next month, think i may have to catch 'em in manchester or sheffield. smile
As a performer I play acoustic blues from the 20's and 30's. Though my tastes are more wide than that. I like Modern Jazz (used to play a lot of jazz guitar when I lived in London), Atonal music e.g. Xenakis,Ligeti, Birtwistle, Elizabethan and Jacobian e.g. Dowland, Tallis, Johnson. Not bowled over by the late Romantics too much. Chuck Berry my all time favourites have to be Cream. The contrapuntal effects of Bruce and Clapton playing together along with Baker's crazy subtle percussion still do it for me.

haven't, but cheers for the heads-up... i'll find out about 'em directly.
what's your opinion on the recent production work of steve albini? i've been listening to electrelane pretty much non-stop recently, and mclusky are doing it for me too.
there's an albini produced all-girl band playing preston next month (whose name escapes me at the moment) who should be good... he doesn't seem to produce shit. smile
i've just stuck bikini kill on. :)
Can't say i have a favourite as my vast collection covers all ends of the spectrum,but i particularly enjoy the Ray Vaughan,Buddy guy,Albert Collins,Albert King,BB king,Freddie King,Lonnie Mack,Doyle Bramhall II,Muddy Waters,John Lee Hooker,Son House,Otis Grand,Otis Rush,Eric Clapton(in blues mode),Taj Mahal and the sublime Bonnie Raitt.
Herbie Hancock(Got my front row ticket for his acoustic quartet in may),Miles Davis,John Coltrane,Kenny Burrell,Lalo Schifrin,Deodato,Mongo Santamaria,Stan Getz,Horace Silver,Cassandra Wilson,Sergio Mendes,Pharoah Saunders,Headhunters,Soulive,Nat and Cannonball loads more jazz but please Katie Melua and that little boy with the piano are not jazz and definitely no Kenny G.
Led zeppelin,Deep Purple,Aerosmith,Pink Floyd,Yes,ELP,SAHB,first 3 Queen albums,Thin Lizzy,Allman Brothers,Derek and the Dominoes(Eric again),Rolling stones,Butterfield Blues Band,Lynyrd Skynyrd,Steely Dan,Faces,Eagles,Don Henley.
Joni mitchell,The Band,Steve Earle,North Mississippi Allstars,Los Lonely Boys.
Staple Singers,Booker T and the MG's,Isaac Hayes,Jestofunk, George Clinton in all his guises,Etta James,Millie Jackson(early stuff),Stevie Wonder and the great Marvin Gaye.
Sinatra, Bennet,Ella Fitzgerald.
Could keep on but won' guilty pleasure though, just so you can hold it against me is..........................................Duran Duran,i love 'em. biggrin :D :D :D :D :D
Finally last and by no means least, the mighty Little Feat
Personally, I'm quite fond of the ... ;)
~Reese! surprised
P.S. ...but, in a pinch, Cat Stevens, Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian or Yello will do quite nicely.

get electrelane's 'the power out'. it's utterly blissful.
nice to meet a fellow nerd amongst the sea of quo & simply red lovers... wink
ha ha indeed its only my first day here so its a good start
comet gain formed out of the ashes of huggy bear though no where near as rioty
my fave grrrll riot band has to be sleater-kinney
Seeing Herbie at Poole Lighthouse on may went and looked on his website but they don't keep it very up to Date and it's mainly American oriented must be doing more than 1 gig over here and i know he's in Germany from the 8th may.I saw him at the same venue in november 2001,again front row and he was was the electric septet with dj that time,on the "Future2Future" the first number he came from behind his keyboards with mike in hand and said"I'll bet you've never heard music like that before." We shook our heads in stunned silence."And neither have we."He went brilliant played loads of new boundary breaking stuff but also gave us a few of the old faithfuls including"Rocket".Not my favourite but stunning none the the encore they did"Chameleon" from AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! cool.
After the gig my best mate and i left by the fire exit which brings you out the back and then you go round the band were in a room there, which you could see through a bloody great lady drummer must have noticed me and the big guy at the gig because she banged on the window and asked us if we had enjoyed the gig. There was only one thing we could nodded our heads vigorously and said,"WOW." In fact as far as i remember all we did for about two hours was look at each other and go,"WOW."The strangest gig i have ever been to(in a fantastic way),but totally amazing.
I don't have a favourite Herbie album since i like all of his different incarnations but i suppose i play "Manchild" and "Headhunters" most.I dj occassionally still in my old age and with the right crowd i will play "Hang up your hangups." People ask me what this awesome slab of funk is and when i tell them it's Herbie they're like,"But he plays jazz." Indeed he does and that is jazz, just very funky jazz.I've played "Headhunters to loads of people and it has made them totally rethink their misconceptions about jazz.
Herbie has been one of the most influential figures in modern music for decades now("Rocket" for example) and long may he continue to be who Jaykays' biggest influence has even namechecks "Hangup..." on "Canned heat".
Well i hope you guys have good luck sourcing some tickets close to i get anymore info then i'll let you know.I only knew he was playing because the Lighthouse send me an upcoming listings programme quarterly.
Al biggrin :D :D :D :D
