One of the chat ops (who shall remain nameless ;-)) mentioned someone from the dim and distant TV past, so I did a quick Google and found this:

Seeing it brought back all sorts of memories from my childhood.... cold winter nights, power cuts, toast on a fork in front of the coal fire, etc.
So, what's the earliest TV program you remember, and what memories does it invoke?
Note to self.... must remember to embarrass the kids by doing the window thing next time we're in town.
Okay... between you and Varks you've made me feel proper young again! kiss
I don't have a childhood memory so I can't really give much to this thread. I just wanted to thank you! I've never heard of him either!
:giggle:
Bloody hell, I can remember that!
I can remember watching Coronation Street in black and white too.
Kid's stuff - probably Crystal Tipps and Alistair.
The earliest thing I remember is the test card - with the little girl on it. I was fascinated by the different patterns and used to get far too close staring at them.
I remember watching Dad's Army very early on. It was in black and white - but then it would be - we had a black and white TV - from DER the rental people and it had a slot in the side for shillings. A nice chap from DER would come round every so often (weekly?) and empty it.
Button moon was my fave when i was a kid, i was hooked! I remember crying when my video player "chewed" the tape up
The earliest thing I can remember is Mary, Mungo & Midge, used to love the music when they went up and down in the lift, Id have been about 3 or 4
Or
Watching Ian Ogilvy as the Saint on a Sunday, whilst we had a late tea after bathtime redface

the Mouse was a bastard... which Mwas it?
It was the one... the ringleader... who coerced the inocent canine and wee strip of a girl into the lifts and down from the towerblock paradise onto the crack ridden streets of the grim grim city.
I bumped into Mary a few years afterthose heady days.
poor woman.
she hated that mouse

Midge?? Are you sure???
Happen I was too young to see the deeper meaning  I just thought they liked to play in lifts together dunno
I used to love watching all my uncles and aunties on Police Five

Me ! To old to remember that far back but I do remember a nice man on here who's location was "Button Moon".
I am sure others will remember him as well.
medic_1 >>> goes to have a ponder on his past.
When I was a lad, the snow was real snow, deep snow and I played all day. I never noticed the cold, until I started to warm up in a hot bath, then to tingle and wish I never got so cold. Only to go out the following day and do it all over again.
Now I must have the right gear, no more wool gloves to become more cold compacted snow that wool. Proper warm boots, not open top wellingtons to collect snow in.
What a wimp I have become? Then gain, it was never that cold. 20 below and no chance of warming up.

OMG! We used to have one of those too. I'd forgotten that. And my Nan had a Redifusion telly, which was the forerunner of cable at the time. The channel changer was a dial on the windowsill.
