I'm not a lover of most TV I dont watch a great deal if I'm honest not even that many films on DVD etc. Occasionally i'm blown away by the quality of something. Invariably this something is British or affiliated in some way, although this time, its wholly American. Apart from the Lead young guy Jax.
The programme which has had me gripped for the last few months is 'Sons Of Anarchy' From the title music right through until the end it is just the most brilliant piece of work.
The prog finished tonight until series two, I'm gutted. I have to wait god knows how long to see the next, I hope just as good, series.
Anyone else catch this series? Or is there anything new on TV that you'd like to tell people about?
I'm off into cyberspace to see if I can buy the soundtrack.
Sad as I am my choice would be Planet Earth ( a couple of years old now though )
I'm a huge Attenborough fan anyway and have seen all his other series. Planet Earth just took it one step further. The photography was jaw-dropping, they went to places I didn't even know existed and was good to see the people behind the scenes getting some recognition in the diaries section in the last 10 mins of each show. Their dedication to their work is something else

The Wire

Currently being shown on BBC2, season four of five.
Why has it blown me away? It's epic in scope (looking at the decline of a modern American city) and yet manages to tell the minutae of people's life stories at the same time. The writing is superbly authentic and the concept extrememly clever. Each season has focused on a different aspect of Baltimore life (the corner drugs trade, the ailing port and the working class, the politics of City Hall, the public school system and the media) but all of the stories are interlinked and characters come and go.
The direction, the acting and the script are all incredible. It's like Dickens in televisual form - and from me, that's praise indeed.
I'm loving The Street at the moment... Monday nights, BBC1 @ 9pm. Well worth a watch if you're looking for something to catch up on, very well written and a different story each week so no real need to have seen previous episodes.
There are only 3 programmes I will make an effort to watch.
Anything that Ross Kemp is in, Family Guy and the Deadliest Catch on discovery.

I can vouch for that
It's usually a channel 4 or five documentary. the various twin towers ones were excellent (twin towers (shot by chance during the attacks and truly jaw dropping/shocking), the falling man, the man who predicted 911, miracle of stairwell b, and one on the engineering of the building and collapse of the towers- and the conspiracy theories which i can't remember the name of)
I was watching Man on a Wire yesterday (until on demand crashed rolleyes ) about french wire walker Philippe Petit walking between them in 1974, really well shot too.
I've also been watching Blood, Sweat and Takeaways on BBC1 on a Monday night (yeah, I should switched the telly off after The Street and go to bed!) but I've been sucked in the last couple of weeks and that's really been an education.

Now that was just awe-inspiring. Really thought-provoking telly.
if you love the wire.... you have to get into "entourage" which is on ITV2.... and absolutely fantastic!!!!
also another brilliant show to watch is "curb your enthusiasm" which is on E4 here.......
both of these are brilliant comedy drama's....

Can you imagine someone trying to do something like that in America now? (Not the twin towers obviously :rollsmile They won't even let you throw yourself off Niagara Falls in a barrel anymore.
The series on the South Pacific islands was just mind blowing, beautifully shot, captivating scenery, volcanoes being born out of the sea  it was just superb
Oh and Psychoville for my own dark soul to enjoy
"Top Gear" and "Two and a Half Men"

The last television show that blew me away was Firefly. As the creator once said, "Cancelled tv shows do not get made into major motion pictures," and yet that one was. If you aren't a Browncoat already, Firefly (and the movie, Serenity) is basically cowboys in space. The group of actors rock as much as the writing and design.
I stopped watching television completely a while back. The tv licence guy came in, took one look at my dvd collection and didn't require further convincing. Now, if someone says there's something I really should see, I go look it up on youtube or something. That's how I got into the revamped Doctor Who.
Right now, the one to watch seems to be House. Hugh Laurie playing an American doctor, or some such. I haven't seen enough for it to have the opportunity to blow me away, though.

I really got into House when it was first shown. Love Hugh Laurie anyway but great to see him in an excellent serious role. Trouble is, it got very 'samey' and I've gone off it now confused
