which one would you choose
If you had to chose between kilign someone you really loved or 100 people you have never met and never will which would you choose?

If I've never met the people and never will.. how will I kill them? Do I just have a detonate type button that blows them all up? If so that would be easy coz I wouldn't be there to see it.

Could you live with the consequences of having hit that button though...with the images flashed across every tv screen screaming *you did this*?I honestly do live by *first do no harm* as I'm sure most people do.

To have to choose between the two I could live with those consequences much easier than killing a loved one. Plus I just wouldn't watch tv,
In all seriousness it's a damned hard question to answer.
I voted for wiping out 100 strangers because that was my gut reaction, not thinking about the question. In retrospect I honestly can't say if that's what I'd do in real life or not. I probably would, then be wracked with guilt at all the other partners, husbands, wives, parents, children that may have been killed due to my selfishness.

If it's a typo of "killing" then I'm with Libra-Love (hey where'd the QT santa outfit go? ;)), wouldn't know how to answer that question, even if I did answer, I can't say that I would actually act the way I might now think I might do if the situation ever actually arose. I mean if I were to admit that I'd kill, say, my brother to save a hundred others, I'd look a bit stupid if it came to it and I killed the hundred to save him.
Kobayashi Maru sucks. Can I change the rules and kill myself to save the 101? If not, and if pressed, I would go with Spock's "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one." But I still can't bring myself to press the button.

At the end of the day, how many of us are seriously going to end up in that position?!? In real life I don't think many people could answer that, but its a hypothetical question.

and if all those options are out (and I'll assume for today they are)

I had a dream once, to this day it still freaks me out......
Me and the kids had been captured (somewhere, don't know where) and they gave me this choice...... In front of the girls, so they can hear everything too, I had to choose which one was to be killed. They say that if I don't choose, they will kill them both. I asked for them to take me instead, but they said that's not one of the options.
It's the silent pleading look on the kids faces that gets me, and the look of pleasure on the captors faces. That's when I woke up, completely traumatised.
Was a couple of years ago I had the dream, but it still upsets me if I think about it. Like right now, cos just written it down for the first time ever

Aww MISSCHEIF I feel so bad now.
I dont know how hard it would be for you to do that cause-as yet- dont have any childern but I can imagine how hard it would be and it turns my belly.
I'm more than 100% sure that your never gonna need to make that decision in your life anyway and I wouldnt wish things like that on anyone.

I'm totaly there with you MISSCHEIF.
I had one of my children go missing a long time ago, the thought of someone harming them was so great, it still gives me nightmares.
Thankfuly he was found a long way from home (he'd jumped a train) he ws only young and hadn't run away(don't wanna go into to much detail coz it was in the papers)
But for the hours when he was missing all I could think about was him being killed and that isn't something you forget in a hurry.
so I have to say I couldn't answer this question and hope to god that I nor any of you are ever in that situation.
