I think ours is a navman f20 and so far so good!, not had any probs with it plus its small enough to fit in my handbag.

Same as ours I think. We had an interesting incident in France last summer- it diverted us off an "a" road, two miles to a small village, through the village, and back to the "a" road 200 yards from where we left it! It got sworn it in several different languages lol.
However, I wouldn't be without it. I've not used it on my own yet, but I'm contemplating a long trip alone into totally unfamiliar territory that I wouldn't have dreamed of doing if I had to navigate & drive solo!

Our old sat nav sent mr lyns on many a wild goose chase especially when driving in cheltenham for some reason!!.
 i was just about to post then i spotted Winchwench avatar and had to go back for a second......third.....fourth....fith.....look :rascal:
Any way i was going to say i have a O2 Orbit which is the bogs dangle bits
:jagsatwork: s'cuse me i have found a larger pic of her avatar i shall be a few moments :wanker:
Navman s30 brilliant thing and not mega expensive......highly recomended xx gary smile
After having a nightmare with my ex's tomtom sending me to random places I said I'd never get one and do things the old fashioned way.....
But then about 6 months ago I bought a tomtom one on a whim and I love it and don't even leave the house without it now smile I do a fair bit of travel with work and although I'm currently based at one place it's great for finding alternative routes if the weathers bad etc.
saying that normally if I'm going somewhere I've not been before I put it on.....look at the way it's sending me.....then decide I know a better route and just ignore it until it decides it's going the same way as me. I turned it on to go to a meeting the other day and it said I was 14 miles away......by the time I got their my way I'd done 29 miles redface
Does anyone else here have a speedo on there sat nav and have you notice when you doing 70 the sat nav reads 65
For anyone whos looking for a sat nav, shopping telly QVC have a bargain on for today but only till midnight.
then click on todays special value where you will be given a demonstration of the sat nav. You are offered 3 mthly payments and during the 1st month you can use it and if you dont like it can send it back without obligation and get your money back.
Sounds good to me, a sat nav to try out for a month.

If your car speedo is showing 70 in reality you are probably doing nearer 65 as most speedos slightly overestimate your speed. They only have to be accurate to within 10%.
I travel the country extensively armed with only my trusty road atlas for less than a fiver and a library of A to Zs collected over time covering almost every county in Britain and not got lost yet.
ian swears by the tom tom one xl
I have a NavMan F20 and I find it very useful, In the last 14 months it has only let me down twice <more my fault than the machine> without fail it almost always delivers me to the very front door of where i wanna be worship
as an aside (sorry if this point has already been made, can't be arsed tonight ) If you have a long jurney ahead but are not in a hurry, try changing the route from fastest (motorways, dual carriageways and A roads) to shortest .... I have seen niches of our great British countryside in this mode that i would otherwise never have known existed.

Something worth considering is- do you have standard size wheels? Low profile tyres etc will throw your speedo out quite a bit.

Oh, and redface

Not entirely accurate. Vehicle construction and use regulations require a vehicle speedometer accuracy to be in the range of -0 to +10%. The implications are that it must never under-read for obvious reasons but may over read. The cost of manufacturing a speedometer with 0% error would be too great so they will all over read without exception.
That’s why Traffic cars have calibrated Speedo’s which are independently set (by a Co in Nottingham)
I have checked GPS against calibrated Vascar and Pilot and a speedo (only the other day in fact) and its as good as it gets!
Hope this helps
Because I can't seem to find the answer in this thread.. but don't want to start a new one.
I have been promoted... :bounce: this involves more travel rolleyes a lot of which is on foot from train stations to obscure offices in ummmmm... difficult places.
My question.
Which sat nav can you recommend that comes with a mains charger. And are they all suitable for walking directions too ? Do they have a 'thing' to show you the quickest when walking as well as driving ? Or should I just stick with routeplanner on the multimap thing?
I could look for t'answers off the t'interwebnet... but it all looks like gobblydegook to me and I am supposed to be in Brighton,Leeds and London next week and I think I may run out of room for the printed off maps and numbers on bits of paper.
help.
thankyou
My Garmin Nuvi 200 has pedestrian settings...
Never used them so cant really help there redface but I suspect most if not all modern sat navs will have a pedestrian setting somewhere in the menu....
As a matter of interest mine was £100 but only came with a 12v charger and windscreen mounting arm and I had to buy a leather case for it but a mains charger is available from the Garmin website as is a usb cable to connect it to your pc should you wish..
pedestrian settings... ahh that was the proper word.
goodness me. I am sure I was more articulate 'before'
reet... a garmin thing..
I shall have a look.
thankyou
If its any help I got mine from Halfords..
hiya splendid...
I have Tom Tom on my mobile & that has pedestrian settings, so its quite possible the Tom Tom One should have then as well.
As for the mains charger a quick visit to most independent mobile phone shops should sort you out.
Just one more thing...
Tom Tom charge 20 quid to replace the charger but if u pop into Argos you can pick up a mobile phone charger kit which will have the correct adapter for 5 quid!
I charge my Tom Tom from the mains using the USB data cable (that it comes with) and a USB travel charger. This is mains plug with a USB socket on it, which I bought from Amazon for under £4 including postage. It is also useful for charging other USB devices, including my PalmPilot.

The sat-nav is more likely to be accurate.
The vehicle speedo has to read in excess of the road speed and never lower than the road speed.
Along the same lines can anyone recommend anywhere to get a new TomTom map from (other than TomTom themselves) as I can't seem to find anywhere cheaper than them (and as we only use it occasionally) I'd like to pay as little as possible lol
try wandering through site, they have a forum you can use....or not....
