The Dentist...........
I am sitting here in absolute agony having just woken my long suffering wife and explained I have to go to the dental hospital today as I can no longer stand the pain....
I have literaly been banging my head against solid objects in an effort to draw my attention away from the pain....
I just dont go to the dentist because I amthat scared
Just wondered if I was the only one......
My god Steve, it must of been bad - you posted at bloody 4am!!
Although I do force myself to go every 6 months for a check up, it does petrify me every time I go.
I wasn't that bad until a few years ago when my dentist removed 3 of my wisdom teeth in a single sitting. It was absolute hell.
Although my dentist is a great understanding chap it does not affect the dread that I feel every time I go.
Although I do have a friend who adores the dentist. If she has to have any work done, she doesn't even have a local
Been there so often due to various injuries, I kind of like it.
There's nothing better than a fit nurse telling you to spit!
Yea I'm not that over keen about the dentist my self, but I don't fear is as bad as Tony or Steve_Mids
I recently had two wisdom teeth removed, and to my great relief they knocked me out totally. Apparently I could still walk and talk, but I did not remember anything until three hours after the operation.
and that is how the dentist should be, you should remember nothing of it...
Don't wish to scaremonger but we should all be more scared of not going to the dentist.
I read an article the other day about how seriously infection in the gums or teeth can affect other parts of the body - notably it can induce serious heart disease if left unnattended. In some cases swelling can get so bad that the airways get blocked.
It said that dentists are trained to spot the likelihood of secondary effects. Worth asking them about it if you've had an infection.
*****TE serious mode off*****
Well untill 2 years ago i didn't go to the dentist since i was at school. But two years ago half of my front tooth broke away yet i still delayed unti yhe point the aching was killing me. So i finally went convinced it was a tooth out job. I ended up having 2 back teeth out and 3 fillings from my childhood replace and the front toothe was also filled. He said my teeth were in good nick for someone who never went to the dentist so all was well.
Dont worry about it it will be good.
If you can pluck up the courage to actually go. I've found the best way to cope with the bit where he is poking around in your mouth is to think of something else.
My hobby is doing tai chi (you know, what the old chinese people do in the park). I always run through the sequence of moves in my head. I really try to feel how the moves feel when I actually do them. I have to concentrate so hard that I am really not that aware of whats going on.
Just found some very disturbing news for SH women folk...
 but not for bloke
The man with a tool in your mouth may not actually be a dentist! :giggle:
:therethere:
You are not alone Steve! I hate the dentist and had a wisdom tooth out around 3 months ago - but the relief from the constant pain was well worth the worry etc.
I hope you get on ok!

so... does anyone like going to the dentist, maybe even get turned on by it...
I'm weird, I love going to the dentist! (and no, not in THAT kind of way!) I love how your teeth come out all shiny at the end of it!
And that's coming from someone who could feel everything when i had a tooth taken out cos I didn't get enough anaesthetic! Managed to gargle to him in time before he pulled the whole thing out, luckily!
Does noone else like it, or am I the only one?!
M xx
I am not scared of the dentist but he is scared of me. Well, that is half truth - the dentist who was scared of me because i refused anaesthesia and then ruined my teeth due to his nervousness was fired from the surgery. My new dentist is confident and everything is honky dory.
