Why IS Sex Such a Taboo?

Freedom of speech is supposedly an inalienable right within a democracy. So why is it that sexual behaviour deemed as out of the 'norm' is so heavily political parties advocating greater sexual tolerance appear to be having problems. Have a read at this:

I wholeheartedly agree that there has to be control of sexual material, but adult discussion in an appropriate forum?
Interesting read.
I think the issue was more to do with the name of the political party than anything else. More sex education that they promoted in 2005 was good!

I actually welcome the government forcing all the perverts and deviants underground (again).
I prefer it in the shadows.
Let's face it...Those that are open about their alternative lifestyle will no doubt admit - those who are proud of their ahem...darker sexual orientation - do not represent the norm...However, (and this was very eloquently addressed in another thread) what exactly is the norm? And more importantly who sets the standard?

If I am to be consigned to a dark dungeon with all my fellow Liqourice advocates - so what - I'll be in good company and think of the party we'll have...
What's more we'll be mixing it up with most of those who have proposed the legislation in parliament in the first place. Perverts. lol

And rightly so wink
I think it boils down to hundreds of years of socio-religious culture really. Always envied my old dog in a way, he could go up to any bitch he liked and give her a good lick with no hangups!

Sex is not , talking about it, or having it in public is , and admitting to having sex. Unless it is 23:00hrs and you claim it is for educational purposes, then it is OK.

See you in the dungeon.
A sadist is someone who straps Winchwench down naked on a cold, hard wooden bench and force-feeds her licquorice.

I have been thinking about this, I do not think it is . It is like talking about salary, no one talks about it, are they inflating it.
No one talks about sex, just in case they are not getting enough, not doing it well enough or...
So like salaries we agree not to talk about sex. That does not stop us feeling ether superior or inferior to others.
So I guess it is after all.

Mmmmmmm? I think there is an important point here rather than the usual sex witch hunt.
We have to remember that this is a 'flyer', which is usually pushed through your letterbox as is, i.e. not in an envelope. So is it possible that the objection is not with the text content, but with the provocative picture on the front?
I know we're all supposed to be 'sexually liberal' but, using the time honoured arguement of kids and old people, some might not want their kids or old people being confronted with this material on their doorstep.
I think the issues raised are serious and necessary for discussion, but the visual presentation does not reflect what is supposed to be a serious leaflet.
Two sides to every story?
