Share a house with 3 people you didn't no?
I'm moving to Swansea and moving in with people I'm meeting tonight aha and shitting it this is well out of my comfort zone but is it a good thing to push yourself out of that comfy place??
Its £250 a month and thats with bills am i doing the sensible thing??
All the best Donna  you'll be ok girl
Check out the rules of the house with them, get some clarity on how things work etc. Like food, I remember my son saying that he'd buy all his food and come back home to find other house mates had eaten it!! Or they would nip into his room an *borrow without permission* his gear.... confused :?
Ask all the questions you can think of. smile :) and check if there is a lock on your door?
If you have no choice at the moment, try it....if it doesnt work out start looking for somewhere else.
Good luck Donna kiss
ooo... tricky one DD...
I don't, obviously, know your circumstances and reasons for considering the move and change ...
all I know is that for me... NO... NO NO NO Never!
over the last few years I've farrr to used to my own space and time... I would find it incedably difficult to share... with friends, or strangers.
(in fact, I may find it easier with strangers... if I reallyyyy had to....)
i even find it a tad difficult to be in someones company for more than a few days... but then again, Im a little odd!
whatever you decide, I hope it all works out for you.
lp
Thanks well i have a fridge so will keep my food in my room and i'll have bronty to put a lock on my door.
Its mad i have never been a student so really dont no haw it works sharing lol I have been sharing with my brother for a few years might be the same with strangers rolleyes
I personally would prefer not to house share only because I like my own space however if I had to and it was within my budget then yes I would. As it has already been said check out house rules etc before you decide. Good luck lol
Donna, make sure that you know how the bills are going to be paid too. A mates son has gone to uni in london, and the flat hes sharing with another lad, is owned by the lads mum. First she told him gas & electric was in with the rent, now shes trying to ask fo more to pay the gas/electric bills.
So check whats included in your rent and then what will be extra....water, phone etc. He also has the food pinching problem, so your own little table top fridge is a good idea.
Good luck with your student life, and your course smile
The first rule of sharing has already been said: check out the bill situation!
1) who is it paid to and how, what if one member of the group falls behind, do the other ones have to cover it? 2) what is included within the total charge, e.g. extra charges, gas bill, telephone bill, water rates 3) what if there is damage to the property or our personal goods 4) what is the down payment and do you get any returned on leaving? 5) what if a member of the group or yourself wishes to leave before the term is up? 6) is there a written agreement . ... which there should be!
It may also be a good idea to have a written agreement between yourselves, as you all may have different ideas on life it self! The others may enjoy a quite life or more parting than yourself!
Agree with each other how the extra bills are going to be paid, remember land line telephone, food and drink! each of us are different and this does not usually show until you have moved in together no matter if it is a few friends or students or a newly married couple moving in together!
The main thing is only to go ahead if you are comfortable, and if you seem to get on with them all. If one brings someone back for the night, is it a free for all wink or hands off! Always keep your money in a few safe places and do not let the others know them all no matter how much you come to trust them, ..... you never know if or when you may need a get home quick and this is not easy if you do not have any money or bank credit.. .... yes, parents are loving but even if they got the flight you would still have to seat around an airport for hours and hours waiting!
Remember the few basic rules but remember secondly it is meant to be FUN! :rascal:
Always take a high factor sun tan or waterproofs and know your drinking limits this includes water for toilet stops!
Best of luck
MF
When I came back from Oz, and while building work was being done on my house, I stayed in Cardiff for a couple of months. It was a 6 bed flat and I'd not met any of the guys there before I moved in. Of the five guys I was sharing with I got on great with three, didn't see much of one and disliked the last so just kept out of his way. I had a great time, they were a good bunch of people. You get out what you put in, treat them with respect and they'll do the same back.
By the way, welcome to Swansea, neighbour biggrin
H.x
Donna, are you just going to share a house with other working people or are you going to be a student?
And where does this come into it?

If you're sharing a house and they are already there, they might already have some sort of agreement that you just kind of join in with. Didn't you ask before you agreed to share with them though? I'd be very wary if you're only meeting them tonight - how long before you move in?
Im moving in with a working cpl and a student in his 3rd year and im going to be working in swansea not going to be a student.
seeing the room im renting tonight did talk on the phone a little about things i.e cleaning ect seems to be ok but will find out more tonight rolleyes
I'd maybe write down some of the things people have mentioned in this thread if I were you - having never shared a house with anyone other than parents, then hubby and kids, I wouldn't know - but the questions on here seem reasonable enough.
I think it was just that sharing as students was mentioned, then that was picked up on by someone else biggrin

Thats more like it :lol2:
I can see a great idea forming here
Have a few people in a house, load it up with cameras, and follow the goings on
Sell it to TV companies, and make some money out of it, this could be a winner
I'm liking this concept.....

I wondered that too, but didnt like to ask dunno...and also the bit about the airport too. I thought I was just missing a post or two on my screen.
Find out where you stand with the bathroom rota, keep your room door locked and dont let them encroach onto your space if you dont want them to.
Check what happens about shared household things like loo roll, washing up liquid, cleaning stuff. You may all feel the need to buy your own or you may be expected to put into a household pot to buy these things when they run out if you all use them.
And if you`re in a shared place you dont have to pay a poll tax bill all on your own!...bonus! smile
Dont think i'd like to share with complete strangers. But what you going to do about pc access?? have they got wireless so the whole house can log in seperatly?

ok, train fare lol although one can always walk home rolleyes
my mind was wondering and remembering a story once told: rented with a few mates, had meet over time and enjoyed each other company therefor deciding to rent and travel together but upon moving in they did not get a long with each others bad habits! so he wanted to run home to mummy but no money! he seat in an airport for 5 days with very little money and typical man very few clean clothes until the transfer of the ticket home came through and has never forgotten it!
students was mentioned in general as no one know the questionnaires circumstances, etc.
'Always take a high factor sun tan or waterproofs and know your drinking limits this includes water for toilet stops!'
My mind also wondering again; i am just back from a holdiay in Canada where I was told to take, jumpers, long trousers, winter coat, etc. and it was sunny in the late 30's biggrin lucky for me I did take a low sun factor and a few tea-shits and shorts! ...and thoughs that know me well always wear waterproofs! :rascal:
Possible I should not have turned on the pc this morning! redface

kidding about the fleas! do they mind if your cat wonders into their space/room?
wireless is scary if you have things you do not wish them to know
thought of the day : I possible should go back under the covers!
it's only taken me a few hours and one post to confuse everyone!
