Hi All,
It seems the latest Microsoft Update is causing problems with ZoneAlarm users
Microsoft Update KB951748 is known to cause loss of internet access for ZoneAlarm users on Windows XP/2000. Windows Vista users are not affected.
Personally I'd recommend that people don't use Zone alarm anyway, it's a garbage firewall and lulls people into false security.

Yeah we had the same issue today and had to do a system restore in order to get back on line.

Hi Peanut, any free firewalls you would recommend ? Any thoughts on Kerio or Online Armour ? Cheers for any advice

Kerio has always had a good reputation, even from the days of Wingate. I'm not up on Online Armour as I use the hardware firewall in my router. All in all I'm not really a fan of software firewalls really, especially Zone Alarm which is notorious for causing more problems than it solves.
This page may help making a decision:
From that page it would seem that Comodo is the number one contender

Thanx Peanut will take a look - your help is much appreciated
I`m still using Sygate Pro. I know, that is out of date, but is so friendly interface ;)
I think bout Commodo or Kerio, but from cpl months both are not really free ;)
To b honest - in vista FW is canny good. If you dont visit too many doggie sites, using firefox/opera inst IE, using add-blocks - should b enough to keep you away from troubles ;)
I use Comodo, Lavasoft, Adaware, AVG, Firefox with a popup blocker, and a router with a firewall. Seems to be ok.
Zonealarm did frequently cause my computer to stop dead.
I use AVG and found its the best one.... it updates automatically daily and has stopped quite a few trojan horses getting into my system..
Would recommend this one!

I used to use AVG for quite a while but I've found the current version to be very buggy and resource hungry and not particularly effective.
Seeing as I'm a cheapskate I use , the free home edition is just that, free. It's fully functional for 60 days then becomes slightly less so but more than adequate for most home users. Then additionally I use for those tricky little rootkit buggers.
