What a man ! Great respect, the guy invented a whole new category of journalism, one of the few worthy of respect in a profession that's full of editorial yes men. Great shame.
Veejay, if you've ever done more than smoke but not inhale, or taken anything stronger than aspirin, then do yourself a favour and pop across to Amazon and order the book. It's way, way more entertaining than the film (forget that!). If you don't find it funny I'd be amazed, given that you're posting here I guess you must be a fairly broadminded guy
Remember laughing myself hoarse the first time I read Fear and Loathing, his writing just hit the button for anyone who's ever been 'there'
Will be sadly missed, but as you say, it's hard to imagine him dying of something natural.
Infact, I'm more surprised he didn't die younger....

Interesting you should say that... I was returning from work via a well known dogging spot in <name deleted> , Staffordshire, and saw a Corsa pulled into a layby. Weird thing was, there was a glow from inside it. Like a GPS device or similar, but MUCH brighter. One of the couple were fiddling with it.
I carried on but... no good, had to go back to have a look.
Went past a bit more slowly this time, and you'd not believe it - they were watching what looked like a porn film on an LCD flat panel mounted on the dashboard of their car. Either that or Newsnight has gone upmarket.
Not sure where the law stands on this, as it was blatantly visible from the road.
Maybe they tried the terrestrial channels first and got bored as you suggested, but decided to go for a hard core DVD instead and maybe finish off with a spot of dogging ?
