no..it wil be new game.....can you get seen geting bits out for a pic on google maps.... first one wins a drink off me !!!
lol dean, i bet there are a few who will take you up on that!
Yup it's been around for some time (though only recently started in UK) and there are loads of websites dedicated to issues, complaints, funny sightings etc.
Here's some sites dedicated to funny and strange pics:
The challenge Google has is that privacy laws vary considerably across the globe. The other problem for the individual is that whilst Google may remove a photo if they receive a complaint, the damage may already be done.
Be on the lookout for something like this coming to a street near you soon (note that unlike when it first started in the USA, Google is now putting small discreet logos on its cars):
And lastly if you want to see where the cars currently are filming, have a look here:
i think this is dangerous.
people will use this for all the wrong reasons.
Here are a few to think about.
Cars could be stolen to order by looking at google streetwise and locating what the thief is after outside someone thief could also make an escape route all without casing the joint first.
The quality of the pictures are such that you can see if someone has window locks on the property.
What if someone is in a witness protection programme and is course there face is blured out but most people you can still tell if you know them.
's could study schools, playgrounds, community centers all without braking any laws they may or may not be placed under.
They could also study the schools grounds and surrounding areas to take children.
Stalkers could use the service to locate people of interest to the pictures are of such high quality that personal details could be revealed to a person looking for it.
For instance.A car bump sticker could identify someones location or items on car parcel shelf.
Terroists. they could plan route into and out of target areas with pin point accuracy without once visiting the scene.
The olympics could be targetted by persons wishing to cause harm.
We have enough sat nav technology to get enough cameras already looking at us as we move.
This is a very dangerous piece of free internet.
You can ask google to remove your home or car from an image but only then if you move slightly forward to the next frame you can rotate the camera and again view what was removed and zoom right in.
Be afraid. many crimes will be committed because of this and some of them will be frightening.
Just read this thread again - I can assure you faces are not blurred in the photo I've just seen of my daughter and I :censored:
about this idea that they will use it to 'survey' people and schools etc. the pictures are taken once, and only probably adjusted at MOST once a year, they don't update them, it's not a live webcam service, and paedos won't be able to 'watch' children. this is just a breach of privacy, and people are only really making a fuss because of the high profile, they definitely don't make this fuss about photobucket/imageshack etc, when anyone could upload pictures of anyone else, and fuskers can hack accounts to view private pictures. it's not so well publicised or prolific though, and that's why people are making a fuss about google streetview. in the same way that they fussed about google earth and google maps when they came out.
Its not as if I was snapped walking down the street - I was inside my own home stood by the window when the photo was taken (was a lovely day an window was open). Plus two workmen are in the photo - one on my roof an other stood by the work lorry.
Faces can be seen very clearly. No face are blurred, yet time was taken to blur car reg numbers nearby.
Complaining to Google is a right pain (once you find where to do it) as your only allowed so many character letters in the box they provide. So you have to keep to what the basic issue is.
I wanted to add to this, as I have just been sent an email with a link to my address in it. I have got nets up, but you can just about see inside. I had a quick search and looked at the addresses of the ladies I care for, none of them have nets, and I can see one of them in the window waiting to be picked up...
The picture of my house is a couple of months old, but that's not the point. And as far as I can see, no registrations are blurred either.
When I see all of them tomorrow, I will be advising them to buy very very thick nets....
??? you have to pay more if you have a pond in your garden? why? isnt the water kinda left there for a while, its mad, what about people who have kids swimming pools ?
sorry off track i currently hate the water board.
xx fem xx
I'm outraged.
on a sunny sunday morning in early spring I take a little stroll through battersea park... nice and ealry, and I thought not a soul around. Very relaxing, and indeed... very quiet.
A little time to indulge myself in the air, and take a little 'time out' from the busy busy of the city.
walking around through the varying areas of the park, from wooded and secluded to the open playing fields and landscaped gardens, I pick up a stick as if walking in the country. True escapism. At one with nature in the city.
lovely.
but no... there is no privacy... no time alone.
no peace.
what do I find sent to me by a friend but evidence of my little indulgence.
lp
Did you notice your only allowed so many characters to complain Sassy? Its limited so you can't have a right moan!!
we love street view.. looking forward to our house being on it..the cars been up and down the road already caught us at the petrol station we could be famous!!! lol well ok a blurry kind of famous which is the kind we prefer but still be laff when we see it.
recently we went down to london. before we left we got to see the actual studio we were going to by using street view , so not just the sat nav we now knew the place as though we had been before .
staggy and rose
I can see how the whole Google mapping thing could be misused, but at this time I'm finding it a usefull tool, not so much the street view, but more the ariel and birds eye views.
I am currently house hunting and to be able to get a better picture of the property, the surrounding houses, streets, etc is proving usefull, I know it's only a snap shot in time, but still worth a look to help gauge what you are considering moving into.
I guess it's like a lot of things in life, you make something available and it gets used for something other than what was originally intended, although in this instance I'm not 100% sure what the original intent was, I am willing to bet that the views that we see are nothing to those that can be made available.
if many of the flashers, nudists and assorted clowns will have it their way, google maps will have to change name in google baps..
its a one off snap shot not to be repeated.
if you don’t have curtains or net etc. then anyone can look in any time local pervs inc.
your sits on the road 99% of its life its illegal to cover it number plate so what’s the problem.
the whole system is so vast its useless to track a car or person you will never find them.
it your caught doing something illegal tuff!
in short this is storm in a tea cup paranoia
not seen anyone complain about there emails being read which is much more personal and why because its not headlining.
chill.
