Inspired by a heated debate between me and moist today!!! biggrin
Vote number one for the hottest act on the planet:
the red hot chilli peppers (got my ticket for their gig in June at Hyde Park!)
You serious? red Hot Chilli Prat are a bunch of whiny brats whingeing their way through every song that sounds exactly the same as the last one.
Now Iron Maiden are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the greatest band on the planet. duel
Slade - for a band whose music always lifts the spirit and makes you think "I remember when......."
I always stick them on when there are some cobwebs need clearing, sod the complexity of the music and the depth of the lyrics.
It just makes me Feeeeeeeel Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaalriiiiiiiiiite NoooWWWWWWWWWWW!
lhk
Kat
Queen has to take (appropriately) the crown.
Seeing them live was the best gig that I've ever seen, and is probably likely to remain so. And I've seen some very good contenders!
Rammstein, Alice Cooper and AC/DC have to come quite close.
Kat - With you there on Slade - I've met Noddy Holder a few times when I lived for a short time in Wilmslow.
.
But I loved Genesis (when Peter Gabriel was with them).
and Floyd......
the Stones....
Moody Blues (then the Blue Jays)....
REM...
the Verve...
PULP....
the Mavericks (don't laugh - they make me feel really happy and want to dance)
damn - so many great bands....
Sorry can't choose just one
I agree Queen but also Squeeze their lyrics are about real life, MrsFChas told me to say her choice is the Pet Shop Boy's redface
hmmmmpf!
Yep - Queen, Squeeze,
and Supertramp
Bob Seegar and the Silver Bullet Band. (We've got tonight, Night Moves etc)
sheesh - how can anyone just pick one!
I love loads and for many different reasons
Other bands are wonderful but my vote must be for THE best....
Queen.....

Trying to avoid looking too smug at the direction this has taken...!
Anyone else there back on those hot July days in '86, hold up your hands...
Now.... clap!
Clap.... pause.... clap clap... pause...
Oh at last! Some stuff that I've heard of redface
Love Slade
Love T-Rex
Love Genesis
Love UB40
etc etc
But my vote has gotta be for QUEEN ....
.....clap clap pause!
Oh me..me..me. again The jam smile
grrrrrrr MissC - I forgot about T-Rex - I thought Marc Bolan was luvvly!
Early Fleetwood Mac (anyone remember Green Manolichy? - I know crap spelling) - Actuall I like the later Fleetwood mac stuff too.
I'm going to stop reading this thread otherwise I'll be back on again!
I am so glad that Squeeze has already had a mention. Lost count how many times I saw them live biggrin
Current fav' bands have to be Travis (got my ticket for a week on Weds) and Coldplay.

LOL Alex, glad I got that one in then cos you beat me to Bob Seagar (spelling?) .... That song 'We've got tonight' is one of the best songs ever in the whole wide world biggrin ahhh sigh
In no particular order:
In the 'good old days':
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Moody Blues
Pink Floyd
Steeleye Span
Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler
Fleetwood Mac
Rolling Stones
Corries
Nowadays(ish):
Longview
Saw Doctors
Coldplay
Goldfrapp
Turin Brakes
Pogues
runrig
The Chieftains
Yep, that's afew, and I could think of two dozen more. But, if pushedfor one that I would be desperate to see:
The Chieftains
But as I love classical just as much:
Halle
Tallis Scholars

Goldfrapp

The voice of the delightful Alison Goldfrapp has always turned me to jelly..........
An inspired choice, Arti........

Sorry to have to say it, but I think Metallica are one of the most overrated rock groups (second only to the Darkness...!).
They've had moments of brilliance (One, Enter Sandman...) but many very average songs. And - although I really wanted to like them - I say them live for the first time at the end of last year and was totally underwhelmed. I've never seen such a weak and lacklustre performance by a headline band before... I was very disappointed.

Too bloody right Zep...one of the most under-rated, yet one of the greatest live bands to walk this earth...as to the Queen fraternity...sorry BC blew them off stage at Knebworth... can't recall whether it was 85 or 86...
and don't anyone take me up on this...its my bloody opinion and I'm entitled to it...lol!!!!!
I Big Country and anyone who thinks that "In a Big Country, "Fields of Fire" or "Wonderland" is the limit of their style or output is an ignoramous!!!!!!!!
Sorry, only playing, music is so personal, just nice to see such a wide ranging appreciation, always said my collection was eclectic!!!
Stu of the "Fran &..." variety
it has to queen then the stones then the who then thin lizzycant believe no one has said the beatles or U2, but music is a very personal choice no everyone like the same thing its a difficult question to answer but the majority agree its freddie and the boys
I aint getting involved in this one.
very wise moist to steer clear this could open a can of worms as music is so personal , p,s where in herts are you as i am near rickmansworth and watford
No I shall get involved actually....
1. Radiohead
2. The Pixies
3. David Bowie
4. REM
5. Joy Division
loads more but think we covered this in an earlier thread I started....
