I started my budget thread with I don't mind if you vote Labour as long as you can back up your views as to why but Who ever you vote for and particularly if you have voted Labour in the past, please please please take 1/2 hr to read these posts and think to yourselves whether you really want it to continue by voting for Labour again because their record rreally does speak for itself. (and just to make sure dig out last years pay slips and balance that against not just income tax but all the other taxes you payed and ask yourselves if Labour is still the party of the average working class person)

It's none of your business and you can't demand that people back up their views as to why they vote for a particular party. Why would anyone care if you mind who they vote for?
I think you're beginning to sound like a party political broadcast and there's no place for that on this site. confused
I dont demand anything, what I ment is that I have no problem saying if they have made a decision, such as voting labour, and they can give a reasonable and sound 'argument' as to why then they have conviction in that decision and I respect their choice.
My comment was based on that if you made a point and the answer to why didn't make sense based on facts and certainly if it was, just because, they are all the same anyway, it doesn't make a difference anyway, I prefer the colour red to blue or green etc then I would simple point out the facts as to why I believe you are wrong in your decision, mainly because you made a decision based on a whim.

You have to respect their choice anyway, regardless of whether or not they give you a reasonable and sound argument as to why. It's unlikely that you would agree with theirsound argument anyway, if you vote for the other party.
It seems eevry thread related to tax must at some point be focused on "scroungers". Here is the testimony of just one scrounger.
Im a scrounger I expect. I havent worked for 5 years and will be seeing the doctor on monday who will no doubt tell me i cant work for another year.
I have to say I live a wonderful life as a scrounger. I no longer have the pressures of an executive lifestyle or a £100k a year wage packet. I also have all the time in the world to have fun. On the downside its sometimes difficult to find the cssh for a bottle of wine on a friday night. Its amazing how much fun you can have on such a limited budget. Only last week I forewent my bottle of wine to buy a can of emulsion to cover up the mould on the kitchen walls. The landlord should sort that out of course but if I complain he will end the tenancy and I cant afford a deposit for a new place and the housing ebnefit doesnt cover the full cost of the rent on a decent home. Im on teh council list but dont qualify for special help as I am not homeless.
Car tax doesnt bother me at all because I cant afford to run a car. I do resent the couple of quid duty on a bottle of wine though.
Perhaps the scroungers that folk refer to who are living the life of reilly know something about the benefit system that I dont. If anyone has any tips on how I can live like a king on benefits I would like to hear them. I am a single parent.
diesel by me is 115.9 rolleyes
once it broke the £1 barrier there has been no stopping it.

Helpline advice:
Lie.
THEY expect you to lie anyway, in fact your benefit is calculated based up on the "fact" that you will lie to get more.
well i think a recession is heading our way fast, inflation is running about 10% despite the government claiming its about 3%.every budget the chancelor says he has to borrow more money aswell as taxing us even day they will wake up and realise they cant keep spending money they havent ago you used to be told the balance of payments for the country now it has got so bad they hide the prices have risen to stupid levels now so there is no real hope of buying a first house.a recession will mean a whole load of pain for a large section of this country but there is no stopping it,my advice is cut up your credit cards reduce your depts as fast as you can annd hold on for a very rough ride

The best way to protest against ANY Govt is at the polling stations. The trouble with this is, we only get that chance every few years and the majority of voters who can be bothered to get off their benefit-saved arses put their crosses next to the same party their fathers and grandfathers voted for instead of using their own brains and making their own minds up!

And thats where Conservative have shot their bolt rolleyes
They have turned round and stated that they will make the scroungers (they didnt use that term but thats what they meant) do work for their benefit handouts...
They aint gonna get the vote from the scroungers now are they......
Thats a couple of million votes gone straight away! lol
No seriously. There are without a doubt a lot of people out there who could work if made too...I know of a few myself but...why would they really want too? I have NO objection at all to the people who are really to ill to work but, if we now live in a society where people are supposed to be more fitter and healthier than ever before, take a look at the increase in incapacity benefit over the last 5 years. From Government statistics! The official Governments figures are : 2.7 million receiving incapacity benefit, at a annual cost of £12.5 billion.
My ex wife was on that and paid more than the income support and also have read ( and dont know if this is true ) but they have encouraged many to go onto that as it pays more. For some and I may stress here not all, its a case of not cant work but wont work.
These are of course my views, of which I am entitled to have.
It is difficult, for me, to pay much attention to government figures for any benefits. They change too often. Incapacity benefit now comprises the old invalidity benefit, incapacity benefit and sickess benefit. Unemployment benefit is now "jobseekers allowance" and is either "income based" through NI contributions (you need 5 years record to claim the full benefit ( )) or "means tested". Either way, it's max (ish). But, since the whole benefits system, as I noted, changes very rapidly, the figures for payments received by claimants cannot be correct and may even be overlapped or doubled, or worse, because of the problem of accounting for payments received under OLD benefits. For a comprehensive index of possible benefits, go though index.....sorry, but it is easier than the SS site...believe me !
