this made me think from a post lyns made about when she was pregnant only wanting to "eat hot bread and butter pudding and squirty cream"..when my mam was pregnant with me she loved eating coal loon  (and probably answers why she found me after 4 hrs of looking sitting on the coal mans cart) and raw bacon...my ex-wife while expecting my daughter had to have chocalate every night, even tho she only had a bar of chocalate once a month..
i no the female body is a wonderful and strange thing but what other cravings have you women had and men come to that, have heard a few stories off the men having the craving and not the women, tho this never happened to me tho.
what strange foods have you eaten that you woudn't normally touch in a month of sundays.
I disliked mushrooms but had terrible cravings for them when expecting..... love em still now!!
There are many stories of pregnant women eating dirt. Apparently they're craving vital micro nutrients that exist in it.
my craving when pregnant was all things cheese related. I had loads of the stuff even daring to have, wait for it, soft cheese.(when I was pregnant soft cheese had just been added to the very long list of things that WILL harm the baby). Probably some sort of calcium deficiency.
Anyhoo... what was slightly strange was a passion for wotsits. These were something I had never liked prior to pregnancy and something I now dislike again. confused
Unsurprisingly my son loved them and still does. (he was born 91b 12oz so maybe that is why I needed the cheese and calcium?)
One of the women I knew at that time loved the smell and taste of tar and her husband would drive her miles to where roads were being laid so she could sniff to her hearts content and take a tiny piece for her to suck on.
splendid
I didn't really have any cravings as such but went off loads of things that I loved, most I still cannot touch to this day, tea, salt n vinigar crisps, salad cream.
I tend to have more cravings now as I'm older especially with PMT. I could eat a loaf of bread in one sitting when I normally don't touch it and I put salt on loads of meals when I normally hate it!

that reminds me off when i worked in a petrol station and a pregnant woman use to come in all the time because she loved the smell of the petrol, and i've heard of other woman loving the smell of tar and driving round trying to find where it was being layed.
with my first i went mad for chinese take away, with my second i ate fried egg sarnies for almost every mean and my third i had about 2 of the McDonalds fish burgers every day some times more, with this in mind i wonder why you dont crave the same thing with every pregnancy?
Cravings are supposedly the body's way of letting you know you are deficient in some mineral or vitamin. You're supposed to act on them, for that reason.
When I was pregnant, I went off coffee and still now drink more tea than coffee. I craved bananas with piccallilli during one pregnancy, but never tried it! The coal craving is quite a common one.
I couldnt get enough of ice cream when i was pregnant with my youngest son, even now he absolutely adores ice cream too! Strange really.. maybe i passed on the craving to him..

me too, i couldnt even make a cup for anyone else because just the smell used to amke me feel sick
I've an odd feeling the name for craving inedible things is "pica." The word just popped up from some dusty corner of my brain......googling it on another tab to see if I was right- although you'll just have to trust me!

Whoo! how smug am I? Anyone want me as their phone a friend? lol

I feel like I've missed out on something because I never had any cravings sad
yep, the correct term for cravings is 'pica'
my first......curry pot noodles and beef monster munch crisps (not together)
my second......cucumber, and also a HUGE insatiable craving to sniff lavender essential oil straight from the bottle
my 3rd....cheese and chilli sauce sarnies.
my 4th........full sugar coca cola (up until then i would only drink diet coke) and lots of garlic in my food.

banana and ready salted crisp sandwiches....yes in the same sandwich
I got a taste for KFC...
And.......
Vittel Water.... It had to be vittel too...no other.. Used to buy it in the huge bottles and drink the lot to myself
rolleyes
The hot bread and butter pud and squirty cream was with my second. With my first it was mashed potatoes and gravy and strawberry milkshake (not together tho). With mt first I couldn`t drink coffee and with my second I couldn`t drink tea.
I had the normal cravings with my first 2 pregnancies and gained the dreaded 2-3 stone!! BUT I loved my 3rd pregnancy as I actually didn't crave anything, just went off a huge amount of foods including...I couldnt eat any hot food at all (as in the temperature!)...went off meat, chocolate, tea, juice etc so I just drank water throughout the whole pregnancy. I remember my daily meals consisted of banana sandwiches and a plate of grapes, cheese and cucumbers!!
The plus side to this? I only gained 12lbs (baby weighed in at 8lb 13 ozs and I had excess amniotic fluid lol ). The day after I gave birth, I weighed myself and I was 1 stone lighter than when I conceived. RESULT!!!!

I used to carry a small bag of potato earth around with me when I was having my son, I never had the urge to eat it, just smell it... loon
Cods roe ............fresh or tinned, made no difference, but it had to be COLD! with bowls and bowls of Pea's.......... normally at around 3am! :smug:

Pickled eggs! Breakfast, lunch and dinner lol
I craved peaches with one and cheese with the other. With both pregnancies, I got a liking for desserts which before that I would never opt for, and that's stayed with me, I alsway choose a sweet dessert now as opposed to before I would always choose cheese as a dessert.
With regard to pica being your body's way of telling you need certain nutrients I don't know. I think this has never been proven. I thought pica was just for the unusual, usually non edible cravings such as coal, paper etc However many ladies go off coffee and as this is one of the worst stimulants for our bodies, I think this makes great sense.
