Just wondering what other members views are on the so-called 'daisy chaining' craze that is apparently the new thing to do for teenagers?
For those who have never heard of it (like me until this week) it is, quote ," daisy-chaining now describes sleazy, drink-fuelled orgies in which teenagers induldge in group sex" (Sunday Mirror 01/05/05)
According to the article teenagers as young as 14 are involved in group sex sessions with up to 16 others. It also states that alcohol plays a part and safe sex is often overlooked sad One poor lad mentioned in the article had contracted HIV at 14 through intercourse.
I consider myself a pretty free thinker and a liberal person, but after reading this I was quite shocked, I was no angel at 14 admitted but the worst I got up to was drinking Thunderbird on street corners!!
Obviously most teenagers will do what they want whatever we say to them, but as swinging parents do we tell them, "don't do as I do do as i tell you"? or is that too hypocritical? I mean at 14,15,16..who doesn't think they know it all? But at these ages emotions are developing and I think young people need to be encouraged to respect their sexual partners and relationships with each other..but this new 'trend' seems to be belittling that respect. :( I mean who needs a bf/gf when you can meet up with a group of mates and just swop partners around?
Thankfully my kids are too young at the moment..but in 8 years time what will it be like then? I dread to think!
I hope I don't come across as a ranting old prude because I am not :P but with STD's on the increase this craze does make for worrying reading.

The only daisy chains i used to do when i was the kid, was in the garden, and that involved flowers, and putting them round my neck lol

Personally i think it's all bollocks!......The Tabloids are scraping the barrel now!

I heard a radio interview last week with a school nurse or community health inspector and Daisy Chaining was the exact phrase she used. It was a serious piece about the increasing incidence of STD's amoungst schoolchildren. The activities she described involved small groups of children going round to someones house, drinking and swapping partners after school. She said it was common and the kids were quite brazen about it.
Thank you Scandal...I was pretty sure I hadn't dreamt it ;)

i have a daughter of 16.
ive brought her up the best i can about safe sex and all that.
thats all a parent can do, give them the information and hope to god they
listen.
But a lot of teenagers are pressured into sex.
when i was at school(seems a very long time ago lol)
you would never tell anyone you wernt a virgin, you would be classed as a slag.
now adays teenagers are scared to say there virgins.
and can i tell my kids dont do what i do, do has i say.
dam right i can, im a adult there kids, they may think they know it all, but they dont.
they still have a lot of growing upto do.
Thank god the only craze my daughter is into is Scoubi-dou, long pieces of plastic thread you weave into patterns making keyrings etc confused
God help her when shes older!!
Phew!!

Two comments on this;
1, I remember about 10 - 12 YEARS ago, sitting in our doctors waiting room, reading a copy of a magazine, Woman or something like that, which was describing an activity common among RUSSIAN teenagers called daisy-chaining. Apparently, this involved teenagers doing......................blah blah blah. Maybe this is a recycled story dredged up by our wonderful tabloid press.
2, A clever friend of mine once said. "Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you read in the papers"
John
Like others i would only believe a small percentage of the crap that gains its way into the sensation fueled tabloids. However, if there is some small grain of truth in this article, i think i would prefer my kids (though thank god they are older than teenagerS) to be involved in group sex, (though of course protected as they were alswaus indoctrinated with the need for condoms) than smoking nicotine (they wouldnt have dared!!! mad ) or drinking alcohol to excess.

at what he said
I can see the headlines in a few weeks u can see it's coming it must be us the swinging parents fault, and our kids are just following our lead, then they will demand another crackdown on the internet blah blah blah, the best way to deal with trash like most daily rags is don't buy then we get all our news off the net
cat
I do think as adults we have a responsibility for the next generation - more so of course if you are a parent and we should we aware that this stuff is going on. Appreciate that tabloids do most stories for the "wow" factor to get their papers bought and have probably blown it out of all proportion.
i don't think parents should be scepticle as nearly 10 yrs ago when i was 14/15 my friends used to go to public places, park/woods/fields etc and have sex a few feet away from each other {mostly protected}. seems a natural progression into debrauchery. It didn't seem a big issue that my friends were having sex in the same room as the rest of us watching a program on the tv
I think there is also a lot of talk, most of the kids when I was at school said they were having sex, very few actually were. I do think kids should be protected from sex until they have had time to find out about theselves, I would hope that group sex is not a common thing. What happened to innocence?
They must have got the idea somewhere?
Anyways I last heard this term used for a line of ladies enjoying each other, not kids in orgies.
surprised Well I must have been born on the other side of Essex then... none of my friends had sex in the same room when other people were there - unless of course I just totally missed it...highly likely as my teen years were spent exploring alcohol instead of sex... Think nowadays the line has moved out a bit but really wouldn't be happy if my 14 year old was involved in something like daisy chaining - not mature enough - regardless of how fast kids grow up these days.

I think you shouldn't always believe what's written in Newspapers,
I worked for a comany that had stories written about them in all the major newspapers, when I compared what was written and the reality I knew I could see for myself newspapers make up 99% of everything written.
I remember the girls at our school had competitions to make the longest daisy chain possible- Its must have been 30 meters long! They got the dinner ladies involved and even the headteacher (she was a nun  ) it went all the way across the school yard!
I was only 7! lol
I mentioned this on sat night and other had heard of it so i came on here and did a search,
i am surprised most of the posters seem to think it paper talk and other talk about flowers.
My 17 years old nephew mentioned to me he and his mate were going to double team a girl at a party, when i asked more about it he said its going on all the time we have Daisy Chaining Parties all the time.
Well i was a bit shocked at first, and found after more questions it goes on every weekend and girls and boys as young as 15 and 16 are getting involved.
after some graphic details i asked if he used any protection, to which he replied yep every time i dont want to die young.
well at least some of the message it getting through

Well yes, but if you read the BBC article you'll see that there have been a few reports from one part of the country (London), it hardly seems widespread. Also in the article it points out that the 14 year old with HIV did not catch it through daisy-chaining.
Thinking back to my own schooldays I seem to remember that group sex certainly happened, but not very often and unfortunately never when I was around. sad

i agree TnH some had sex when i was at school, but mostly it was talk.
the lads i went to school with had all on rolling a fag never mind rolling a rubber on. lol.
i know kids will experiment as we all did, but group sex at 14 is a no no.
like minx said thank god my kids are far too young.
