I remember when I was just old enough to go into a pub and the effect of 3 pints of bitter - everyone's jokes were amazing etc, but as you get older and your tollerence to alcohol increases, those days are a distant memory and regular drinking just brings the prospect of liver disease closer.
So my moto is out with the heaving drinking, in with the heavy shagging.
Nothing wrong with having "one over the eight" as the old saying goes..
Occasionaly I get together with some friends of mine and we all probably drink a little too much but hey....
In my early days and even into my mid-life I drank when I was out. No problems. In the darkest moments of my divorce I drank too much too often. I was a pain in the arse to my friends.
I haven't touched a drop for 2 years. I feel stronger faster fitter. Yep best thing I ever did.
Yes it can and I'm quickly coming to the realisation that a night's drinking (whether I've had too much or not) is taking longer to get over, not just in terms of hangover but how ropey and tired I feel for the next 2 days!
Last time I got drunk I thought I was superwoman and met a sticky end with the pavement. Taught me a big lesson. Binge drinking doesn't work. Just makes the pain worse, in more ways than one!
"what the hell is he prattling on about",I get that look all the time.
Not because I am drunk, I do not get drunk, nowadays.
I once a hundred years past got so drunk that I got stopped whilst stripping in the centre of town on a summers evening by two police amazed police officers. Knowing my parents instead of arresting me they phoned the folks (i hadn't been living at home for 10 years) Who rranged for me to be picked up ASAP by a bright blue reliant regal (plastic Pig)!! Somewhere someone has photo's ! its frightening.
I drink very little quite rarely. Though there was an incident this year where I did as Mallock says have one over the eight. And suffered as Calista dioes for two days feeling really shabby after. I would alsu say in with the shagging too nowadays Liasons. And keeno - 2 years without a drop and feeling good respect not easy as with so many of us it is almost an integral part of our socialising !! Cool.
it is the same as most things... enjoying it in moderation....
I remember when I was younger I was a big time drinker.... stories I could tell you about going vodka shot for vodka shot with russians....lots of beers and plastic trumpets in copenhagen...and everyone i know has some sort of "tequila" story
I think the change for me was working for a while on the other side of the bar watching how drunk other people got that altered my thinking...
I think it is a case of growing up and realising that it wasn't as big and clever as it seemed in the way back when..... but that is something you learn
its right if its at the right time................ i dont drink much in the house but do like to get drunk on a night out derek tho drinks every night and never gets drunk just personal choice i guess
most of us have had times when we have drank to much to forget or dull the pain ect but thats life everyone can drink to much amongst friends
if you know when to stop then you do well
Once along way from home I had more than usual to drink. The strange thing was my understanding of the local language improved.
Has anyone else discovered this?
I can't handle the hangovers anymore. I know when ive had enough and stop.
I haven't drunk much since I got pregnant (son is now nearly 20 btw LOL) but my biggest problem wasn't what I did while drunk - it was the fact that the next day I remembered every stupid thing I did and said!!!
I like drink though and a couple of glasses of wine will get me totally giggly, which is apparently hilarious (hubby says so).
