Don't pick on me over the next week or two. :boxing: duel
This normally placid, polite and gentle person is giving up smoking.
I last tried this in August and managed OK for 2 weeks but then I cracked 2 ribs and was confined to a chair and smoking was all I could do without hurting. :violin:
So, midnight tonight is the deadline and co-incidentally at 00:01 it will be my birthday so I bet some sod buys me a lighter. drinkies  coffee
You have been warned. :small-print: smackbottom :smackbottom: poke
Steve

GOOD LUCK PARROT !!!! coffee  hope you stick to it , and it does,nt send you

smile
Steve mate stick with it ..
After 40 a day for about 40yrs I gave up six years ago , on a Christmas day lol = one present was a packet of fags and a lighter = still have the lighter but gave the cigs away at work,
It will not be easy, just remember not to crack ribs again wink
Oh if you want to scream and shout at anyone = try me = you will get support but no bloody sympathy lol
Fred
good luck parrot
I gave up a year and 9 days ago and I have just coped with my dad in intensive care without wantng a fag at all so if I can d it so can yuou
You don't really know me parrot - But I can relate to what you'll be going through. I gave up smoking 3 weeks ago after seeing my dad in Intensive care after a heart attack. It's certainly not easy, but if you can make it past day three, you're certainly on the right path.
I've wanted to give up for years now, but lacked the motivation to do it. However there is no bigger motivation to give up then seeing a family member in ICU, hooked up to ventilator via a Tracheotomy. My dad has to give up smoking too, so I figure it will be easier for him to do if he's not doing it alone.
I reckon we should have a quitting smoking thread similar to the weight loss one - kinda like a support group via the forum!
Hang in there
Kevin
Good luck with the attempt mate. By giving up tonight you should be able to celebrate a lot more extra birthdays.
Just hope the parrot understands what you are going through biggrin
Good luck mate. Stick with it. :high-smile: wave worship
Keep with it, and try not to think of it as "giving up" smoking. You're not giving up anything, you're gaining better taste, smell, energy, money, health, the list goes on.
I stopped 7 or 8 years ago after smoking for 25 years. If I'd saved up all the money I wasted on tobacco I could have bought an Aston Martin. mad
There's lots of things to help; I found nicotine patches worked for me, to wean me off the craving while I broke myself off having to do something with my hands, but try self-hypnosis tapes, books, anything that appeals to you. But the best support is people. If you ever feel tempted to light up again, just log in here and I'm sure someone will talk you out of it.
It's worth it, I promise, and the cravings DO go away. This is something we'll all give you 100% support with.
You can do it Parrot, stay positive.
Happy birthday for tomorrow too biggrin
Was gonna say Good Luck, but you dont need luck, you just need willpower.
Stay focused!
xxx
good luck parrott, you don't no me but I wish you all the best.
never smoked myself, the sight of oxygen cylinders and pipes at my dads put me off life.
quit now and you won't end up like him.
Well done Parrot - you know it makes sense!
I gave up in November, and I used the NHS stop smoking service. I would advise it to anyone who is considering giving up.
You have to go and sit in a group of people once a week and get the opportunity to talk to them about it. I guess its a lot like any other support group - in that everyone there is feeling the same as you. You have to blow into a machine which measures the CO in your breath (to prove that you have abstained!) I found the group really helpful, but the best thing was that I was given prescriptions for nicotene patches.
The patches really do make a massive difference, and normally they cost about £15 - £18 for a weeks worth, so the prescription is a godsend too!
You may not feel that the service would be useful for you, but I would suggest you give it a go.
Best of Luck!
James
biggrin
Steve mate its 0722 Wednesday ....... and dont you bloody dare light up cos I am watching you .
This needs bumping up each day peeps to give the man support.
Fred
Good Luck from me too,i also know how hard it can be,but how very worth it,it is.
If you cant do it cold turkey have a chat with your GP,patches were good for us biggrin
Patches worked brilliantly well for me too hun,
Still thinking of you ,
keep going
Good luck I hope you get though it OK it will be hard but stick with it boink
very best of luck to you sir, i'm sure you will do it smile
good luck i do hope you stay off them(i'd love to quite but i do enjoy them i know they are bad for me and they make me smell but i do like them)if you find a good way off them that works(apart from willpower alone)will you post another subject about it and it minght just help others like me the balls to quite
lots of luck
Well then. My first day as a non-smoker didn't get off to a very good start.
I didn't have a ciggie but my PC broke.
If I can handle stres like that, anything else will be a doddle, lol

Yes I am serious
Heavy smokers have a distinct taste about their skin, as well as the smell on their clothes, hands etc.
Perhaps as a non smoker, my sense of taste and smell is higher than those of a smoker, but I can sure tell the difference
